If you purchase an annual pass ahead of time, you get a voucher that will need to be activated prior to entering the parks. The annual pass starts on the day of activation.

If you pre-purchase your AP you will get a Will Call number. When you arrive at WDW, go to any theme park or Downtown Disney Guest Relations location to activate your pass. The clock will start ticking at the time of activation.

If you purchase the AP at WDW you will get the actual AP and the clock will start ticking at the time of purchase.
