When does hurricane season end?

Hurricane season runs from June 1 until November 30. However that is the range that most hurricanes happen in. It does not mean it is impossible for one to form outside of those dates. But historically it is not that common. Also, the tail ends of those dates do not usually see hurricanes. The majority of major storms hit during the height of the season (August and September). To my knowledge November storms are not that common.

Technically, Hurricane season ends in November, but that doesn't mean that a hurricane cannot or will not strike the US during that month or afterwards. Hurricane Kate in 1985 was the last November hurricane to hit the USA, and also one of November's six major hurricanes. Kate was a Category 3 hurricane on Nov. 20 and 21 in the Gulf of Mexico, but weakened to a Category 1 storm before hitting the Florida Panhandle where it was blamed for five deaths.
