Can anyone tell me when the "Happiest Celebration on Earth" ends at WDW? I read somewhere in October 2006 and somewhere else said Dec2006--trying to decide when to take my DD-tia!

hi,
I'm not exactly sure of the ending date, but it was supposed to be 18 month long celebration.so starting in may,2005 that would make it end some time in nov or dec 2006.hope that helps and just go to wdw!

Everything I've read said that the celebration ends in September 2006. An 18 month celebration, which started in the beginning of May, would have ended in October 2006. It seems we've lost a month, however that might make room for a new celebration to start on October 1, 2006, which is the anniversary of something, I'm sure, as October 1 is a very important day in WDW history.

I've also read that it ends in Sept. which is confusing since it's an 18mth celebration. If it does end in Septemer wouldn't we lose two months?
And from what I understand if you call a Disney travel rep and ask them you will get different answers.

No, just one month (and four days, to be precise):

May June July August September = 5
October November December January February = 5
March April May June July = 5
August September = 2

5 + 5 + 5 + 2 = 17 months.

I checked all the press releases I could find online. They all say either that it is an 18 month celebration starting in May 2005, or that the celebration ends in September 2006. There are probably a few CMs who need some mathematics assistance, but at least the PR folks who put out the written information about the celebration have been pretty consistent in their inconsistency, with just these two options.

18 month celebration........Let's count -
1 - May
2 - June
3 - July
4 - August
5 - September
6 - October
7 - November
8 - December
9 - January
10 - February
11 - March
12 - April
13 - May
14 - June
15 - July
16 - August
17 - September
18 - October

By the way, I also read October online (I will locate the article) and was told October by a friend who works at Disney. So, one of the stories are wrong.
If you go a complete calendar month, it would be November 5th.

May I ask what is the important date for Disney on Oct 1st?

I believe that's the open date for Epcot....but it could just be a worldwide celebration of my ds's birthday!!!

I thought it might be the anniversary of the MK but didn't know for sure. Thanks for the info. I wonder if they will plan anything for this? I sure could use another excuse to go again next year. LOL

This is basic history folks, written onto the minds and souls of all WDW fans. :rotfl2:

From Wikipedia: "The Walt Disney World Resort, located in Orlando, Florida, USA, is a theme park destination resort owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company. It opened on October 1, 1971".

Epcot opened on October 1, 1982, so they've got a choice between celebrating the 35th anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2006-2007, or celebrating the 25th anniversary of Epcot in 2007-2008. I'm betting on the former.

I've heard that it is supposed to go through October with things starting to die down then. So I would guess the official end should be somewhere around that time frame.

Random side note: Our bus driver last week quizzed us on the importance of "October 1st." Apparently it's not a coincidence that both parks were opened on that date - it's the same day that Walt was dishonorably discharged from the military for drawing on duty.

Walt was never dishonorably discharged.

Walt openened DL on Oct 1st and WDW on 1st so it was has been used for the opening date for most major events.

Hmm. . . so the bus driver was WRONG. LOL

That was the first I'd ever even heard anything about it. .. didn't even realize it was a myth at all.

WDW transportation CMs are among the most creative folks on-property, spinning the most fantastical yarns one can imagine. I don't think they intend for guests to actually believe them. :teeth:
