When Does a "Week" Begin?

We are new to DVC and are thrilled to have AKV as our "home" property. We are planning our first visit for spring break next year. I'm sure I'll have LOTS of questions as we embark on this new way of enjoying Disney, but I'll start with this one: In booking a stay, are there defined parameters as to which day of the week we can arrive/depart? As an example, if we were to book a week, is it pre-determined that a week will begin, say, on Saturday? Or can a week begin on Sunday? Or Wednesday, for that matter? I can imagine the booking nightmares that such odd requests would impose on both DVC reservations staff, but also on other members. I haven't been able to find an answer to this simple question, though, so figure you all can help. So when I plan, when should I plan for the FIRST night of a stay? Or can I make that my own choice as long as I make my reservation before others? If there IS that kind of flexibility, what is the best way to be "polite" to other members?

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to being "home!" :-)

WELCOME HOME:welcome:
You can book any day you want to start your week as long as DVC has a room available.

Thanks for the welcome!

While it's wonderful to have this flexibility, does it inconvenience other members to have a stay begin/end on odd days? Is it more polite to schedule a week as Saturday to Saturday, or are each family's travel plans so diverse that it really doesn't matter as long as the reservation desk has the dates available?

No inconvenience. It is first come, first serve on rooms. Everbodys travel plans are so different it is better to do what is most convenient for your family.

You should definitely schedule whatever works best for you. I don't think that they assign rooms until the day of arrival, really, or perhaps, until you check in. As long as there is a reservation available, you should be OK.

Doesn't matter..that is the benefit of points based timeshares. We hardly ever do a full week and most of my trips start on Mondat, Tuesday, or Wednesday. DVC is very flexible and as long as there is a room, its fine to book!! Welcome Home!!!

Welcome home from us too!

No, it doesn't matter when you start your week. Not everyone comes for a full week - some come for only 2 or 3 or 4 days. And some come for more than a week!

So you choose when to start and when to end your stay. That's part of the flexibility of DVC!

Enjoy!

The "week" that is shown on the points chart is 5 weeknights + 2 weekend nights within that season. There's no discount to book a week and you can start any day of the week.

I knew I'd get quick answers to my questions here. Thanks, everyone! At this point in time there is availability for each of our "what if..." scenarios for planning. It would be easier if there were fewer options! It means that WE have to make some decisions now. :confused3

Thanks for the warm welcomes and for the helpful answers. Chat with you soon, I'm sure, as the questions will continue!

A week can begin on Any day you choose subject to availability. Travelers from the UK get cheaper flights mid week so many are looking fornWednesday ton.wednesday for example. Not everyone will want Saturday to Saturday and not everyone wants a full week or a weekend.

One thing about DVC though is even though you see availability now, it may not be there tomorrow or even later in the same day. So... if you have the ability to book it now, you probably need to book it ASAP, particularily for a holiday time like spring break. Absolutely you need to book before the 7 month window opens, if you want to have any decent hope in obtaining the exact accomodations that you need.

Absolutely not. Not everyone stays for a whole week either. Some stay for one night. Some stay for a few.

We only go 3 nights at a time. As mentioned, it's fcfs and you can book on whatever day you want, as long as it has availability.

To a degree you are in competition with those other members. As long as you're following the rules in place, you shouldn't worry or second guess the other issues. Just realize the rules may change over time and sometimes there are rules that one might not think of if no one ever told you.

I just booked our first stay at AKV for spring break. While I know we'll have bigger crowds, it fits in the family schedule. Really looking forward to our experience! I decided to telephone member services for this first reservation. They were WONDERFUL in helping not only with the details of my reservation, but also addressing all of my "newbie" questions. Just have to say it again: Disney does it right! And from all appearances here, so do members of the DVC community! :-)

I'm glad you were able to get your villa booked! There's a lot of info and it can be confusing at first but you'll get the hang of it :)

You'll love AKV, one of our first DVC stays was there and we loved it. Did you get Jambo or Kidani?

And to add to what the others have said do not fret one moment on your arrival days, do what works best for your family. We have always come and gone on various days of the week on our trips and all has been good. :)
