What day does your town do trick or treat?

I HATE our town! They schedule it for the Thursday before Halloween (even if Halloween is on a Thursday, they schedule it the week before). It's always from 4-6 p.m. when MANY parents are working.

I've written letter after letter to the editor hoping to change this.

Anyway, when do the rest of you do trick or treat?

Why would a town "schedule" Halloween? You know you really don't have to listen to that, just have everyone trick or treat on Monday night when it actually is.

We trick or treat here on Halloween. Why would you go some other time? Does your town also reschedule Christmas and New Years?

We usually go out just as it gets dark for an hour or so. :)

What is the purpose of trick or treating on a day other than halloween? :confused3

The kids trick or treat ON halloween here. All day and all night up until around 9pm. Growing up in MI we had set times to go (usually from around 6-9pm).

Trick or treating is on Halloween Day. I think one year when it fell on a Sunday (not last year) they moved it to the Saturday.

On Halloween and no time set as far as I know!

Thats crazy about changing it and the times too. 4-6pm is way too tough for working people. Before I had kids I always felt bad when I got home late on Halloween because no one would be home to hand out candy!

Around here though the smaller kids come out between 5-6. And then it spreads out and most are done by 8pm.

On Halloween even if it is a Sunday. It's pretty much all day until about 9 pm.

We usually just go to the mall on Halloween. It seems to be a little nicer and much cooler in these hot costumes.

I haven't seen kids TorT here in at least 10 years. We always have candy just in case, but we end up throwing it out.

A couple years ago I started having staff bring their kids into the office when they get off school and we put candy out on everyone's desk for the kids to go around to.

We only trick or treat on Halloween, usually at dusk.

I imagine it would take a whole lot of people to buck that trend. It's a small town and they like to do it in an organized fashion for "safety" -- from 4-6, if you have candy for the kids, you leave your porch light on. Otherwise it's a no go. They've been doing it that way for so many years I doubt they'll ever change it. I think they started it some time in the 80s with all the poison and razor blade scares.

Come to think of it, all the towns in the county schedule trick or treat! Some do it the same day as ours, and some do it on other days. So it gets pretty crazy with kids from other towns coming here, and probably kids from here going to other towns (we don't do this).

It's insane.

I had never heard of scheduling trick-or-treating before my aunt told me about it and she lives in small town in TN. where they do that. We just go on Halloween night around 5:00 until the kids get tired or their :goodvibes candy bags get to heavy!

Our cities around Columbus schedule when "Beggars Night" is. That way they can keep it safe for the kids. Fri-Sun are always out for safety & religious reasons. This year it will be on the 31st from 6-8 I believe :)

My hometown trick or treats on the Sunday before Halloween, usually from 1-4 or 2-4 in the afternoon. Needless to say I only trick or treated through about 6th grade, because it's boring in the afternoon. I got to high school in the next city over and couldn't understand why my new friends were talking about trick or treating. They got to trick or treat at night. My town has always "scheduled" Haloween, and I expect it'll always be this way. And it can't be a safety issue really, since no one walks anywhere. You drive to the houses because they're all far apart.

We live in a small town and on the outskirts we trick or treat on October 30 which is Gate night, and in town it is on Halloween. So the kids here get two nights of trick or treating. Lucky lil Devils Ha

Always, always on Halloween night. We wouldn't do it any other time.
The merchants in town do have trick-or-treating for the kids on the Sat. before, during business hours.
And the schools have trunk-or-treat the Sat. evening before.
Guess we fit lots in :teeth:

I have never heard of this and frankly, I think it really takes away from the fun of it for kids.

I've never heard of scheduling trick or treating for a night other than Halloween. I can see making it a Sat or Sun night so it won't be a shcool night, but Thursday? Do they schedule when you can take showers, too? ;)

We trick or treat on Halloween. No set time, but usually people head out at dusk. It gets crazy here for about an hour (the first real hour of darkness) and then it's over quickly. Some kids continue until quite late (one of my sboys is obsessed with getting lots of candy), but it's mainly the teens. When I want to stop giving out candy I turn my light off.

I do not mind giving candy out to teens as long as they dress up. For that matter I'll give it to adults if they dress up.

I still don't see why it is safer to do it on another night instead of Halloween night. I would be quite annoyed, because I'm really looking forward to that night. The weekend I'm going up to my college for a friend's party, and I wouldn't want to miss that back home! I live right next to an elementary school, so it's not uncommon for us to get about 300 kids come to our door at night or more. Every year we run out of candy and end up giving quarters away, and pretty much don't even bother to shut our door!

Gate Night here is the night where all the local kids go out TPing houses at random, and have their little fun. Our community really doesn't mind it as long as they don't use eggs.
