hey guys!
I;m leaving for WDW in 27 days! and i was just wondering how long in advance do you start tanning?? I burn very easily and thought i would give it a try this year!!! I would love the advice!!!
thanks

Honestly, I don't.
I've never worried about how pale my skin is when i'm down there.
I'm too concerned with packing and having fun there to worry about how I look. I mean when I'm at Disney World my hair may look cute and my clothes but as far as extras like make up and jewelry and other stuff I don't worry about. I'm too busy trying to beat the crowds of people!

I usually start tanning about 3 weeks before we leave. I buy a package of 10 visits and I tan every other day. If you burn easily, you might want to wait 2 or even 3 days at the beginning between visits. Also, start at the low end of the time period, especially if the bed has new bulbs. I always do a couple of 10 minute visits, and then work my way up to 20 minutes by the end of my 10 visit package.

im not worried about how i look i am more worried about burring when i am down there. I ALWAYS burn when i go down there,... so i thought tanning might help me out. i think i burn because i live in buffalo and we haven't seen the sun in like 6 months! lol

I worked in the tanning industry for years! ( I am a sta at home mom now;) ) But you will want at least ten visits, and you will want to go every other day for the first couple, then closer to the time go every day. It is up to you how soon you start. Yo ucan start now ,or wait. But it will cost more in the long run if you start now, but you will defiantely have a better base. But be sure to still use a sun block while there as well. I haven't gone tanning since I had my baby (she is 2 now!!!). I have been debating going too. But for me the hassle is getting someone to wathc her while I go. Not always an easy task. I also live in a rural area, and not much choice of where to go, and I would have to drive further to get a better place.

If possible rotate between bed and booths. You get the best alround tan that way. I find booths better than beds too.

Tanning is for the birds and not for me. I think it is funny walking around WDW and Florida looking at all the white people with no tan and guessing are they from Canada or Northern USA. We all look so funny with shorts and white stocking legs:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I can't wait for the great sun and the burn on my body. It has been way toooooo looong and the good weather and I need to rekindle again.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I enjoy going back home after our holidays and all the people are white as a ghost and I come in all tanned and burned and peeling.:lmao: :lmao:

I started tanning yesterday. I don't burn easy but it takes a while for me to get a good base tan. But mine is for my trip to the beach spring break. Disney is not till this fall. Hope fully I will still be dark from lying out by the pool from this summer for my Sept trip.

I use to go tanning all the time but I now realize its not the best thing for my skin so I would now rather look pale and live an extra few years. If you burn easily, get a really high suntan lotiona nd keep applying!

I agree! I used to love to be in the sun, and I would go tanning before any vacation, spend endless hours at the beach. But I am actually going into the dermatologist next Friday to have 2 moles removed that she is very suspicious of. One of the removals is going to leave a scar, but that is nothing compared to the fear that I have right now. It will be sunless tanning lotions, and SPF 45 for me everyday for now on. It's just not worth it to me.

When do I start tanning? Well,,since I had a melanoma removed last fall, the answer to that will be "never". I do burn easily and have always gone to the tanning bed a few visits in the spring with the thought that it would keep me from burning so easily. Well, it always has. But, the melanoma that I had removed was in a spot that has never been touched by actual sunlight. So, It is a result from tanning a tanning bed. I had a chunk of tissue removed, 21 stitches and now a 2 inch scar....but, no more cancer. My new stategy will be lots and lots of sunscreen. By the way, the mole didnt really look suspicious. I only went to the dermatologist because my fiance worries too much. He saved my life.

I'm with the posters that don't tan. I burn pretty easily, too. I just use a high SPF sunscreen and reapply often. I don't tan because I worry about skin cancer and I'd prefer to prevent premature wrinkling. Even if you do decide to go with a base tan, be sure to apply sunscreen anyway. You can still burn with a base tan.

I was a tanning bed junkie back in high school. I had a Pre cancerious spot removed from my face just last march. I was one to always try to have a base tan before a vacation. (I am very fair) My dermatologist told me the damage was from when i was 20 (i am only 35) . I was quite scared! Needless to say ..........at the end of the day..............I decided it was not that important ..............I would rather live. I recently returned last month from Disney white as a ghost!! Just remember.................I was one that thought it could never happen to me!! BEWARE!!

I took classes on this, and I learned that you actually have more of a chance of getting skin cancer from going and getting a burn on white skin than going in a tanning booth every day. It's those who don't get enoguh exposure that are more at risk. Of course anyone can get it though. If you tan slowly and wisely you really don't have any worries.

I used to do the same thing you do - start tanning about 3 weeks before for each trip. There was one trip I didn't tan for (right after my 1st son was born) and I still hate looking at the pictures of myself with the pale white ghost face!

Anyway, last trip (Dec 06), I tried one of those Mystic Tans (the one like they spoofed on Friends). Well, I was a little too dark the first day, but then after that - I loved it! Very even, very natural looking (which is what I was concerned about) and it took all of 5 minutes!

I will never spend hours in the tanning booth again - most importantly too dangerous and, secondly, too time consuming!

Good luck and have a great trip!

I've tried the Mystic Tan, too, and its not bad. If you're just looking for color to your skin, it's a great way to get it fast!

I have to add my 2 cents worth in on this. I agree with the above, I would rather live a few extra years.
I own a beauty salon and tanning center, and have tanned in the past religiously only in the summer months, giving my skin a break during the winter. I too have had skin cancer, and all due to the tanning bed, at least thats what the dermatologist say.
I now use the Mystic Tan, and love it.
This is just my opinion... Good Luck and Have a good trip, and don't forget your sunscreen.:)

ok.. i didn't mean to start a debate on skin cancer... i was just asking a question... i understand tanning is not the best thing in the world for you but i have never done it before and was willing to try anything so i don't walk around WDW as red as a lobster...no matter how high of a sunblock i use i still end up burnt. I take all precausions when it comes to the sun.. even though we only see if doe 3 months out of the year here! lol
Thank you for all the advice... I'll check out the mystic tan and see if we have it around here!

I usually start 3 to 4 weeks in advance. I go usually 3 times per week, this seems to work out pretty well.

Good luck!!!

Good luck with your tanning - hopefully you can find a way so you won't get a bad burn during your trip. I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions for you - my son and I get there very pale and have a light tan by the end of the second day and that's with using a sunscreen. Good luck!:thumbsup2
