When do you start packing?

I usually have all 5 of our suitcases on my bedroom floor 2.5 weeks in advance....I then add things as I think about them, and pack all the actual clothes a couple days before. We are from Canada and usually travel in October, so our summer clothes are packed away in a box anyways, so I might as well haul them out and prepare them in the suitcase....Or at least thats my reasoning for my madness....lol:thumbsup2

The day I book my trip I pull out my carryon and start putting in toiletries, ponchos, fanny pack, etc. The clothes I start packing about 2 weeks before, but it gets packed, unpacked and repacked about 50 times before we actually leave. :rotfl:

I take the luggage out about 4-3 weeks before we leave, and make a packing pile on to of the luggage. Clothes I'm saving to wear for Disney, stuff I happen to buy for the trip, and other little things that I happen to think of that I'll need throughout the few weeks beforehand. And if for some reason I need some of the stuff before the trip, it's just on top of the luggage, so it's easy to get at.

Then I'll start the actual packing about 5 days or so before we leave.

18 more days!!! I CANNOT WAIT! :yay:

We're going in Sept. and I started picking up things we're going to need a couple of weeks ago (yes, I'm obsessed). I made a list of everything we need - toilietries, drink powders for bottled waters, etc. We also always get a couple new pair of shorts, new swimwear and beach towels before vacation. It works out well since we go in Sept. because everything goes on end-of-summer clearance before then. Then I start packing 2-3 weeks before we go. I'm not sure I do it so much out of necessity as I do to keep myself busy so I don't go insane waiting for the trip.:rotfl:

My short answer to that question: It depends on how excited I am about the vacation! When we're going to Disney, I am extremely excited and tend to start packing as much as a week in advance.

One thing that I do is I try to get all the clothes I MUST wear at Disney packed as soon as I can. That way, I don't wear them to work and get them dirty and end up not being able to take them on vacation. It's kinda funny, because the last few days of work before a vacation, I'm wearing University of Iowa t-shirts and those old jeans that don't fit me right anymore. LOL. What else is there to do? I can't risk having one of my nice shirts/pants lodged at the bottom of the laundry hamper only to be found the night before vacation with no time to wash it.

I have to admit I wait till about two days before, because I take all the clothes that I would be wearing for work. I work in construction management, so we mostly wear jeans, polos, and capris; which is what I wear down there.

But I do start my day bag about a week before; my first aid kit; nail care kit; toiletries; crystal lite-to-go in various flavors; sunscreen; chapstick; etc. I use the smaller travel sizes, so I can throw stuff away as I use it up. I want to make sure I have covered all my bases.
