I do mine once a week. I used to do them on Friday, these days it's monday.

I don't have a set date, just whenever I get around to it. Usually I do them weekly.:)

About a week before they're due.

Everyday I download from my bank the transactions, then I go and see if any bills are do and then I pay them as I get them :)

Whenever we get them -- usually within a week or so of receiving them.

I pay the next day after I get them in the mail... I'm manic like that.

Usually its once a month. We arranged all of our bills to be set at the end of the month, down to utility/car...

We don't have that many, so we do them then.

I learned this from Ann Landers, but every day when I get the mail, I go inside and stand next to the trash can.
Junk mail: gets tossed.
Bills: check gets written right then, prepped to be mailed back.
Credit card offers: open them, remove anything with a mention of your name, and put all the other papers back into their self-addressed stamped envelope. Send the offer right back to them on their dime. (actually learned that at Cheapskate Monthly)
Magazines: coffee table.

Then I go right back outside and mail the bills back.
This way, nothing sits and festers.

I don't pay the bills, Stephen does. I just create them. I think it's a good system.

The next day and forget about them!

LATE

I have a bad habit of waiting until the last moment to write the necessary checks. Since we always pay off our credit card bills when they come due, that $35 late fee really stings. I used to have a really good system for paying bills, but my desk organizer is so DISorganized that sometimes I miss the fact that a bill is due. Some creditors have a grace period, but others (like VISA) do not.

And a couple months ago, I wrote the check for our automobile lease payment early, but I knew that the funds to cover that check would only become available while I was away on a business trip. I gave the envelope to Sue with a post-it that told her when to drop it in the mailbox. Which she never did. So I got to pay another late fee. Yikes.

Year ago I used CheckFree (when it was brand new) to pay all my bills. That worked fine until the folks at CheckFree decided to send my car payment to the wrong address (same bank, different city). I was actually a month ahead on my car payment, but I got the nasty phone call from Mr. Johnson at the bank wanting to know when I planned on making my car payment. That mess took months to clear up and I dropped CheckFree like a hot potato.

I used to pay my wireless bill using an 800 number and my credit card. That stopped when the billing system had a glitch while I was making my payment and my Visa was billed FOUR times for my wireless payment.

Can you tell that you've hit one of my hot buttons???
