When do you need to cancel a reservation?

We have a lunch booked for tomorrow afternoon. It's our arrival day, and I don't know that we will make it there in time. If I cancel now, does my card get charged a cancellation fee? I wasn't sure if you need to cancel the day before the ressie, or 24 hours before. Thanks in advance!!

It's midnight the night before.

However, I also have been able to cancel a same day adr without paying the fee by going into the reservation in MDE and selecting "modify". Then I chose to switch the reservation to a random date several weeks out. Then I cancelled the reservation for the new date. This was several months ago and no charge has ever appeared on my credit card.
