When do you get your Flu Shot

As soon as they are available at either work or my dr's office.

Got mine on Tuesday. Get one every year for the past 15 years or so. DH still needs to get his. They may not protect against every strain of the flu but I like to do what I can to help prevent it and if I do happen to get the flu at least I know I did what I could.

Never. I haven't had the flu in 10 + yrs. Or at least the standard variety. I never get fever, chills, body aches etc. I get colds all the time. I get stomach bugs all the time.

I generally don't, but I'm considering it this year because I'm around younger kids more. If I do, I'll get it later in the fall, though, as I may be traveling later than usual in the winter, and I don't want it to be wearing off by then.

I don't get one generally. I have an autoimmune condition that doctors believe may have been triggered in part by my getting the regular and h1n1 shots back in 2010 in preparation for travel to Asia. I had never gotten one before that.

I got one in 2014 because I was the primary caregiver of a family member undergoing chemo. Nothing happened to me and my health was secondary to his at the time. I'll risk the flu over fluid build up around vital organs and other debilitating consequences.

I get one every year. I'm a float nurse and I often staff the ER, so I have high exposure to sick people. I have had the flu 4 times in my adult life and it was the closest to death I have ever felt. I think the flu shot works, but it is a guessing game, so if you happen to catch the strain that isn't in the shot it is bad luck.
I have worked in healthcare for 7 years. I've had many, many patients die from flu
I've never had one die from the flu shot.

Unless work makes me get them, I won't. It can't protect you from every strain and building up my immunity is much better IMO.

I don't know about this new district, but in my previous district, only PE teachers and school nurses were required to get them.

I haven't had the flu in years by the way.

I get a flu shot every year, usually in mid October. This year I got it on Sept.27, because I happened to be at my doctor's office.

I got mine a few weeks ago. It's a gamble as to if they work or not. It's a guessing game, they put the strains in the shot that they think will be the dominate strains. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are not. Not sure how many strains of the flu are out there, but I think only 3 or 4 strains are in the shot. It's not a guarantee, it just stacks the odds in your favor a bit.

I get the flu shot but Im not sure of it, but would like to add the flu most often is like a bad cold, not throwing up and pooping, some people think that is the only thing that is a flu

So true. I have a friend who is a nurse and it drives her crazy when someone says, "I have the stomach flu." The flu is respiratory, not stomach related. If you are having stomach problems, it's a stomach bug.

I don't. I've done well at avoiding the flu/cold for around 10 years by eating healthier and obtaining some sensible sun/UV exposure year round. It has worked for me. I'm happy with it as it appears to strengthen my immune system.

Likely the only reason I'd consider the flu shot is if it was required for work.

Most in my family get the flu shot. I've observed that most of them come down with a nasty flu/cold at some point during the flu season. They tend to eat poorly also and I don't believe most make an effort to get into the sun from time to time.

This is so true. Eating health and wash wash wash your hands. I also take a vitamin D. This goes a long way to preventing any illness.

Got my flu show a week ago Thursday. I have some lung issues so the flu shot is highly advised for me.

It's certainly worked good for me, thankfully. I used to develop colds/flu frequently before I made the changes. I've had a few times also were I was around many others for days, such as Holiday gatherings, where most were terrible ill. Yet I didn't catch anyone else's flu/cold bug.

Just to add, I used to believe that vitamin D in a pill helped me with flu avoidance. Today, I'm not sure that was the case. I've always done both, taken some vitamin D and also I have a UV sun light that I'll use a couple times a week, 10 minutes at a time, during winter.

I began wondering if vitamin D pills helped with avoiding the flu/cold when I read of many on other sights that took vitamin D but were still developing the flu bug frequently. It had me guessing that my sun lamp might be what helps me. Just a guess with that. It is one of the differences between me and the others.

There are articles on health benefits seen with sun/UB exposure outside of raised testing vitamin D levels. As some examples ~

My company offers free flu shots, but it's not mandatory. I usually get the shots and have had no adverse reactions. I missed the first session due to being on vacation, but they're having a second round in early November.

We have pretty much 100% participation in the work flu shots because we lost a co-worker in 2014 to the flu. She was only 47, no other health issues, one of those health nuts who watched what she ate and ran marathons on a regular basis. As all the Doctors said she was the picture of health, but they feel her not getting the flu shot was her only health mistake.
