When do you book your vacations?

At 11 months but do not do day-by-day

If it's all 5 of us, we book at around 10 months. We are tied to the school calendar so that llimits our travel times. If it's a special trip, like my dd's 16th b-day trip for just the 2 of us, I booked less than 4 months out.

Thanks everyone! I agree with so much of what you all have said too - we book early (10-11 month window) but also sometimes take advantage of short term planning where just being happing being there is the goal for my family.

Dr. T - I completely agree that being DIS users probably shows us to be a bit more of the planning every detail types.

I know this isn't scientific (and I thought of better wording immediately after posting), but it seems to me that a lot of the concerns about SSR and its size are not legit. At least not yet.

I always make my reservations at the 11 month window at our home resort BWV.

We like to try other resorts and I sometimes call at 7 months to change to one of the other DVC resorts. If its available great, if not that is great too because we are still going home!

The only time I have done day-by-day is when it is a popular resort or accomodation, like the Beach Cottage at VB.

We usually go in July and I call in January. I've never ran into a problem. Last year, I called late Jan. & wanted a 2 bdrm villa @ BWV with a standard view (all they had were preferred views-didn't want to use the extra pts), they put me on a waitlist and I got the standard view (which ended up being 1st floor and I could open my door and the pool bar/pool were right there. If we were staying @ our home resort (BCV) I'd probably book 11 months out, but last year and this year we're staying elsewhere and maybe next year too. We want to try all the DVC resorts before going back to BC.
