We are going from Buffalo to Orlando August 1st - august 8th. I read that 6 weeks before the trip is best. Last time we went we went at the same time and got all for of our tickets for $600 total, that was 3 years ago. Now the lowest I've seen so far is $1000 total. Does that sound about right for 3 years later?

I like SOuthwest since I dont have to pay to check in bags. Should I book now at the $1000 or do you think it'll go back down again? I'm afraid it'll go up!

If they go down you can get a credit to use within one year.

Hello fellow Buffalonian! :thumbsup2

We flew in September last year and I want to say we bought our tickets in May. I've found the best prices about 90 days out.

But yes, airfares are up. I paid $240 per ticket for our trip. The Septembers past, I've paid as low as $140 per ticket.

Two other friends with familes flew last August, both on SW, and both ended up paying about $250 per ticket. (Flying off days like Tuesdays and Wednesdays.) One flew near the beginning of August, the other near the end.

Keep an eye on Jet Blue. They were actually cheaper than SW. First checked bag is free and TV's are fantastic for travelling with kids. Both our flights were nonstop direct.

Good luck!

Hi Neighbor! :goodvibes Looks like $250 isn't too bad, I've been watching bing travel and its telling me to wait because prices are expected to drop. I kind of think I want to book tomorrow. I will check Jetblue as well. Thank you!

JetBlue will also give you a travel credit if your flights go down. :thumbsup2

Well I booked last night - $220 PP not bad at all!

Now just keep checking the Southwest site (assuming that's who you booked with) and if the price goes down, you can rebook and get the credit, which you'll have to use by May 29, 2013. (By "use", that means you have travel with that credit by that date.) FYI: Southwest sale fares are usually posted Tuesday-Thursday.

I tend to book our flights in 2 separate one-way trips instead of a roundtrip so that I can use any credit I get on the flight down toward the flight back. Right now, I have our flight down booked, but not a flight back.

That is such a great tip!
