When Do X-Mas Decorations go up at WDW?

We want to plan a december trip to WDW in 2008 to see the beautiful Christmas displays that we always read about. I was just wondering if there was a specific date when the Resorts and Parks get decorated so we could plan when to be there. I want to book at the 11 month window, because I know those first few weeks of December are popular for DVC users.

I believe they are busy at least a week or two prior to Thanksgiving putting them up, but the official "lighting" is usually done on Thanksgiving night or the night after.

Now, things change but this is how it was in 2006 and for several years prior to that. We had gotten into the habit of coming down the first week in December and have enjoyed viewing the decorations including the Osborne Lights during this time period.

The decorations usually go up the week of thanksgiving and don't come down until the end of the first week in January. When we were there in January of '05, the decorations were still up when we arrived but came down before we left.

So the schedule says Nov.12 6-8 but this is suppose to be a EMH night, do you think they would stay on until park close?
We have Fantasmic package dinner, was hoping to exit that, and then walk through the lights.

Just kidding but I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. IT seems to be earlier and earlier.

You will be good to go! We did the same thing you did...along with about 100 of our "closest" friends! Everyone else had the same idea we did. But when you are walking down the boulevard with the "snow" falling and call the lights and Christmas music, it is just wonderful!

I know these go up much earlier now. We were there in Nov. 2002 for entire week of Thanksgiving and they were just starting that week and then even in 2005 they weren't as early as now.

The dancing lights of the last couple years are absolutely fantastic! MUCH better than when they were on residential street. We could stand there and watch them for hours!

We have been at WDW during the first week of Dec several times, including last Dec. By then all of the decorations were up and the MVMCP was in full swing. I think last year we were told the decorations start going up a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving and all are up by Thanksgiving. The MVMCP usually starts just before Thanksgiving, but we were told the date is determined annually so it does not start on the same day each year.

The way WDW is presented for the Holidays is amazing and I'd recommend everyone try to experience it sometime. We won't be doing it this year but we are talking about the first week in Dec 08 with some family.

We were at WDW the last week of the F & W festival and each day we saw some new decoration go up in the parks. A little bit here, a little bit there. Each day my DH & I would say, "Was that there yesterday? This looks new. Too bad we won't be here to see the full decorations."

I would think that by December, all the decorations should be up and it should be beautiful!

You are correct! We were there two years ago for Halloween and some Christmas Decorations were up in the MK the next day on 11/1! Not all by any means but they did start putting them up I guess after the park closed on 10/31
