When do we need passports?

Help, I have been traveling so much for work I have not had time to look at these boards. When exactly does the new passport law come into effect? We are traveling on the 9/24 cruise and am not sure birth certificates are still ok....anyone?

You're fine. The new rules are for 2006.

Here are all the dates:

# December 31, 2005 – Passport or other accepted document required for all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America.
# December 31, 2006 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.
# December 31, 2007 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air, sea and land border crossings.

Sounds like they got you covered on the dates, but honestly, you should never leave the US without a passport.
