When do the airfares begin to drop?

I have been looking weekly at the airline webesites as well as travelocity since early spring and have yet to see a price drop.
Our trip is the first part of May, so when should I expect to see some lower prices?
I refuse to pay almost $300.00 per ticket.

Vouchers are not an option for us because we only fly about once every 5 years.

Airlines generally don't discount fares way in advance because they want to make sure all the seats are filled in September of 2001 before they worry about Spring of 2002. The fare sales for May-June of next year won't happen until at least Feb-March. In the meantime, keep an eye out for what the Fall and Winter specials are so you have some idea what to expect come springtime.

don't expect may sales to be out until the first part of the year. and then as it gets closer the sales will be even better. you have too mnay other ones that will come up before this time of year.

Sounds like I wont be making any airfare ressies until I make my PS arrangements......

disneydreamerinny - I know how you feel. We aren't flying out until the end of June 2002. We need 4 flights. I have enough FF for three flights, which I already booked before they sold out. Now I'm sitting on the edge of my seat wondering when I should purchase the fourth. I'm afraid if I wait too long, there won't be any seats available, at the same time, I know the rates will go down, so I don't want to pay the full prices. We also don't fly very often, so vouchers wouldn't work well for us either.
