When Do Taxes Have To Be Postmarked

Hi I had all the things laid out for DH to sign for me to be able to put them in the mail Yeasterday,well he did not get home till late so I did not get to the PO.Well this morning he was runnung late again and did not get them signed.
So with the 15th falling on Sunday does that mean they have to be postmarked by today or Monday?

Actually, the date is April 17th!

Yep, it's the 17th. It would have been the 16th but it's Emancipation Day in DC so taxes are due the following day (17th.)

In Massachusetts it is also the 17th because of Patriots Day

Yup, with the 15th being Sunday and the 16th being Patriot's Day, the taxes don't have to be sent until Tuesday the 17th.

DH is out of town and has pounded this date into my head. He won't file late, but he won't send them money one day before he has to.

Mail them on Tuesday. Mail them on Tuesday. Mail them Tuesday. It's all I heard before he left, the day he arrived and I'm sure I'll get more calls about it.

It would be so nice to have a husband who calls to say he loves and misses me instead of MAIL THE TAX ENVEOLOPES ON TUESDAY!

if the government owes you money, you don't have to rush to mail them at all. they don't care when those are postmarked. they only care when the ones that owe them money are.

April 17 (if the 15th is a Sunday and the 16th is a holiday)

This year it is April 17.

was told that by an accountant. my parents haven't sent theirs in on time for years and never have a problem. they don't file an extention either.

I'm an accountant and ALL taxes have to be mailed in by the 17th (or whatever day they are due), unless they filed for an extension.

Considering the millions of returns that come in, and the small percentage that are audited, it just might never have been caught.
