When do I make ADR??

I think I'm confused! We arrive a WDW on May 9th 2010 and want to make our first Dinner ressie for that night. When do I get to call and make ADR's If I count backward do I count May 9th or do I start to count from May 8th? I have found 2 different counters so now I'm sooo confused!
