when do I have to activate my AP?

DH and I are going June 18-26, and we have a big family trip planned first week of June 2021, so we bought APs in February. If the park is closed or we just can't go due to $$ issues, what is the latest we can use those? Can we wait until our 2021 trip? I'm fully prepared to do a weekend in November if we must but if we don't go in June I'd just rather wait until NEXT June.

Your AP certificate is good until at least 12/31/2030. So if you are unable to go June of this year and you don't want to activate until June 2021, that's totally fine.

The only way to activate a new AP is by doing so, in-person, while at WDW.

BUT, before your trip, you CAN book advance FP+ and you CAN book a WDW Resort FP discounted room (when available) WITHOUT needing to actually activate your AP certificate in advance.

No. That does not happen.
It's up to you to do the AP activation by going to a Guest Relations with a legal photo ID and your AP number info and the CM will do the activation.

(It is possible that the concierge desk at the WDW resort might be able to help you activate the AP,
but it is still up to you to do so.)

BTW, if you don't activate (or already have) an activated AP during a trip on which you booked an AP discounted room, the resort can charge you full rate.
