When does summer vacation end in California? Other Western states?

It varies from district to district. Many are year-round, meaning that there is no Summer break and the school year starts the Monday after July 4 (they get 4 weeks off for every 12 they are on track). Others are traditional and do get a summer break. Most are back by at least the Tuesday after Labor Day. My local district goes back mid-August.

Where I live in CA, we go back the 2nd or 3rd week of Aug.

my school district is year round.....we go three months and then off one month so there is no "summer" vacation.

however, in the traditional schedule for our junior highs & high school (my district), the first day back in school is the day after Labor Day Holiday.

Third week of August here. We are about 30 miles from DL.

Pretty much when ever you go there will local kids off / out of school.

However anytime after Labor Day will be considerablly less crowded then May - August.

i agree with this post....the Southern CA AP blockout date calendar will give you a good idea on crowds. It's their crowd controller calendar.
