When do California schools start and...

when do they have fall break? I'm trying to plan our trip, so any info on when schools start up or when fall break is will help us a lot. Thanks so much!

Schools not on a year-round calendar start up anywhere from mid-August to the Tuesday after Labor Day. I don't know of any S CA school districts that take fall break.

For Thanksgiving are most off the whole week or just Wed-Fri?

More and more are taking the whole week. It used to be that the first couple days of that week were pretty quiet, not anymore, though.

I think you will find different school schedules across the state of California. We are in Northern Calif., school starts on August 7. The school has a three-week fall break in November. We always go to DL during the fall break--great time to go. We will be there November 12-18 (just before Thanksgiving week!).

It vary's very widely. As was stated in the first post a lot of school, in so-cal, are on year round schedule. Which means there is almost always a group of kids off.

The schools in my district start last week of August and get the week of Thanksgiving off. No other "fall break."

Its also good to consider the colleges in the area, because Disneyland can attract a pretty huge college crowd. (Ex: Spring Break periods).
Most colleges go back in session mid August or the first week or two of September. Anytime in late August/after labor day should be ok.

in san diego we have year round and they get out end of july start back after labor day, have a long break around christmas, april

The public school system here in Simi Valley, CA start on August 30th. For Thanksgiving, they have Thursday and Friday off.

We are in Northern CA also. Jeff's school starts Aug 24th, Wed-Fri for thanksgiving, 1 week for Presidents day break in Feb, 1 Week in April for spring break. My friends kid is in san diego, he gets the whole thanksgiving week off. Plan on large crowds

Yup. And it ended June 16th. And we get Veteran's Day off on November 10th and Yom Kippur on October 2nd. Those are the only days that our district gets off after Labor day. >_<
(Unless there's a 'Fire Day'. But I doubt anyone would go to DL while there's a fire in their hills, so no worries there. xD)
