When do airlines change fares?

Is it only Southwest that routinely has fare changes come out on Tuesday or is that standard in the industry? I'm eyeing what may be the best rate I can get at this point from NWA ($186 r/t p/p from San Antonio) and I don't want to risk losing it overnight.

Typically Tuesday/Wednesday are when most airlines revise fares. Most will also post their "last minute-weekend special" rates. (I had my CO notice first thing this morning.)

BOOK IT. There are a limited number of seats at each fare. The fare doesn't have to go up, other pax may get the discounted seats before you.

I had been checking air for our June trip religously and not only was it way high (over $300) but the n/s fare times stunk. A couple of Saturdays ago I checked and it was down to $190 and it was a AM departure and PM return. IMO $190 is still high but I booked it anyway because the flight times were good for what I was seeing available and we are going again in November so if the price dropped I thought I could get a credit for future flights. I fully expected the prices to drop further on Tues or Wed but nope. I have been keeping an eye on the prices so I could get a credit but the price has gone up to $511 (with a side note that there were only 2 seats available at this fare!). It's crazy, I keep thinking the prices will be dropping soon but quite the opposite. We went in January because we were able to get a r/t flight for $130 @! We usually go in the spring and/or fall, so maybe I'm just not used to summer fares?

The price of fuel is going up, I would not bank on seeing really low fares this year.
airlines have no set date to change fares and can, and sometimes do, change hourly.
