DD just turned 1 on Friday and still no teeth :confused3 We feel like she has been teething since 4 months old but not a one has made an appearance yet! We have her one year check-up tomorrow so of course I will be mentioning it to the Dr....not that there is much he can do about it...haha. She eats lots of different foods though....we're not huge meat eaters, but she does eat cut up chicken and turkey...lots of fruits and veggies....so it really doesn't stop her from enjoying food but it seems really late to me. DH's step-mom is a pediatric hygenist and she said this is on the late side for teeth to come in but at this point they may all come in together.....anyone have babies not get teeth until after a year old?? Just curious :)

My kids were between 9 mo and a year. My DGS just turned 2 and is still cutting teeth. He was around a year when his 1st teeth erupted. Each child gets them at their own rate. If your child doesn't get any in the next month or so talk to the pediatrician. A fast x-ray can tell if they are in the mouth.

We have lots of friends with babies (and finally one of our own!) and they have ranged from 4 months to over a year before the 1st tooth appeared. Our DD has been drooling like crazy since she was 8 wks old, but no sign of a tooth anywhere...we're just taking the "It'll happen when it happens" approach.

My oldest got his first tooth at 4 months, my dd was 6 months & then my little one was 9 months. I have seen a few babies with no teeth at a year. They'll probably pop in a couple at a time.

My older boy was a toothless wonder until 14 months. My younger cut his 2 front bottom at 4 months, but the rest were slow - he's 27 months, and we're still waiting on his 2 year molars. There's a huge range for "normal" with teeth - nothing at all to worry about!

My niece just got her first tooth recently... at c. 16 months of age.

BIL's family includes multiple orthos and dentists... and they (along with DN's Ped) all felt that the slow/late erupting teeth were not an issue. Some children simply reach specific 'developmental milestones' at a different rate than others. So long as everything else appears to be ok, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

When my son was a baby (he is now nine) we had a check in with his daycare provider. She went through the developmental milestones with "each child is different, but 80% of children develop this skill between here and here." In his class was a little girl named Jordan. He was twelve months, Jordan 14.

"Children generally start walking about a year. Your son seems to be on track to walk at a year. Of course, all children are different, Jordan was walking at eight months."

"Children can generally feed themselves a X point. Your son is doing fine. Jordan could at X"

It went on like this. Jordan (who my son went to daycare with for years and was a very nice little girl with wonderful parents) was an exceptionally early developer in many respects (she did slow down and all the other kids caught up fine at around three or so). And I finally said, laughing "But, Jordan just got her first tooth, and MY SON had eight of them at seven months!"

Thanks everyone!! Makes me feel better :) We know the teeth are there since we saw them on our Level 2 ultrasound. It seems like this is the only milestone she has not met....thank God with everything else she is right on track....we could not wait for her to walk...now she's running and climbing everything...I'm exhausted...haha...thanks again!!!

DD got her first tooth at SEVENTEEN months! DS on the other hand, had five teeth on his first birthday. He has six teeth now.

Anyway, my ped told me that the late teething was not an issue. I got my first tooth at 12 months - late teething can be hereditary. Don't worry about the eating, because they don't really use those front teeth to chew anyway.

Happy birthday to your DD! I  one year olds...

I agree with the others. Perfectly normal, and those front teeth aren't used for much chewing. :thumbsup2

Most definately NORMAL!!!

My dd6 had her first tooth appear (just barely) the week of her 1st birthday!!! They did seem to all come at once...whew!!! :lmao:

She didn't have much hair either!!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: But she is such a cutie and has such a great personality, everyone just loves her!!!

Relax, everything will turn out just fine.

It's normal. My daughter was a little over a year old before she got her first tooth. We used to joke that we were going to have to buy her baby false teeth. She hasn't had any trouble with her teeth as she has grown. She's fifteen now and she just last year got her 12 year old molars.

My niece turned 1 in November and didn't get her first 2 teeth until this past March and now she has mouth full of teeth, so I say don't sweat it she'll teeth in due time.

Pediatrician didn't believe DS was teething at 3mo but his first tooth appeared before he was 5mo!
On the other hand, our niece (who was born just two weeks before DS) didn't get her first tooth until well past her first b-day. BIL said the dentist told them it's actually better to get baby teeth later although I can't recall the reason.

My kids were not early teethers, and I was always told that it was better because then you don't have to worry about brushing them at such an early age. I don't know, maybe they were just trying to make me feel better! Anyway, DD3 has them all, and DD20m has all her front ones, and some of the back.

DS7 got his first tooth at 12 months and had all his teeth by 17 months.
DS4 got his first tooth at 11 1/2 months and had all his teeth by just under 2yo.
DS2 got his first tooth at 15 months and had all his teeth at 2 1/2 years.

My oldest sister's kids also got all their teeth at 1 year or older. My other sister’s kids had their first teeth by 4 months. They each have 3 kids too.

The rotten part is that if they get them in late, they loose them late. DS7 was the last kid in his grade (200 kids) at his school to loose a tooth. He's only lost 4 where some of the kids almost have all their permanent teeth.

Well, our dd is a bit of a early teether. At 9 months she has 7 teeth and eats like crazy.

We have also been dealing with this. Ds is 13 mos. with no teeth yet and i guess hearing from some of you, we may have a few more mos. to wait. The teething process has been going on for what seems like forever that I just can't believe that there is nothing there yet. Do dr.'s ever get to a point that they help them out if they think they need it. I have heard of some having their gums cut to help them come out. I am praying that ds gets them soon so that we don't have to deal with anything like that!

My DD walked before she got her 1st tooth and we thought getting teeth at 10 months was late and walking at 9 was early. Then my son came! LOL He was always big for his age so we assumed he would walk late since he couldn't even roll over both ways at 9 months! All he wanted to do is stand and try to walk. Well at 9.5 months he rolled over both ways and the same day crawled and 2 weeks later walking! Then we figured he would get his 1st tooth any minute since he was HUGE! LOL So when his 1st bday came and went we thought it was funny he had the toothless smile since he looked like he was almost 2! Any way at about 14 or 15 months we started seeing the clear bubble and a tooth popped out. He drooled for what seemed like for ever I want to say until he was way into his 2 yrs maybe almost 3.

Now he is almost 6 and he is itching to have the tooth fairy come but we told him he has a long wait since he got his teeth so late! LOL

DS got his first tooth at 4.5 months, however DD got her first tooth at 14 months.
