When did you feed your baby solids?

I started my daughter on solids at 5 months as she completely went off milk!

She hated baby cereal so she pretty much started straight away on pureed veg and soups. By 6 months she was on 3 proper meals a day i.e. pureed mince and potatoes, pureed pastas with various sauces, pureed anything :rotfl:.

Well, I'm a little later than most. We waited until our little guy was 8 months old, but he was extremely premature and was very tiny and behind developmentally for that first year, so he just wasn't ready before that. He was exclusively breastfed up until that point and nursed very often, so I had no worries about his nutritional needs being met and I also didn't want to start replacing the breastmilk (which I knew was absolutely the best thing for him) with anything that would be less important for him to have. When we did start at 8 months, we skipped cereal totally. Like someone else mentioned, mashed avocado was the first thing we fed him. It's the perfect first food. We never used any jarred baby food at all, just mashed up fruits, veggies, etc until he started on finger foods just after his first birthday. He continued nursing regularly until he self-weaned at about 3 1/2 years old, so I was never worried about his nutrition.
