When Did I get Voted Off of Skinny Island #2: Castaway's Land Ho!!!!

Marnie – Welcome!!! :welcome: You will be able to send a PM after you have 10 posts. Tell us a little more about yourself and you’ll rack up the posts in no time. What program are you going to follow to help you reach your goal?

Dawn – Happy Birthday!!!! :bday:I hope you had a fantastic day and good luck with the work party.

I did really well with eating today and actually DID go to the gym after work. Oh, I have to brag just a little bit. I RAN on the treadmill. Granted it was only 4 minutes out of the 30 that I was on, but I haven’t ran for more that a few steps since high school and that was a LONG time ago. I could only run for one minute then had to go back to walking till my heart rate came back to something less likely to make me pass out (well maybe it just felt like I was going to pass out). I know its not much, but I feel really proud to have pushed and not care what I looked like on the treadmill. I was afraid I would fall off, but whenever I was worried I just grabbed the handrails. I actually didn’t drag my foot at all (even when I was just walking). Anyway, I was able to do 2 miles in 30 minutes. Trust me, that is HUGE for me.

Food Log
Breakfast – Raisin Bran w/ff milk
Lunch – LC Turkey breast with apples
Snack – Fiber One Bar & Nectarine
Dinner – Orzo pasta salad & cherries
Dessert – Skinny Cow

Jane - that's great that you ran!!! Who cares how long, it's a start!

Marnie - :welcome: to the DIS and to skinny island!! Let's hear about your plans.

Dawn - :bday::bday::cake: You can have this cake - no calories!!

I tracked today! I am starting to think like I did before, so that's a step. I just can't stop paying attention to what I'm putting in the old pie-hole! I'm also going to skip my sweet coffee drinks for a while. They weren't helping!

B: crispix w/ 1%, mini bagel w/PB
L: salad - romaine, 3 cherry tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles and croutons
Pineapple chunks, banana
S: 4 dove miniatures (not all at once)
8 almonds
pretzel m&ms
D: TGIFriday's Caribbean Chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries, raspberry iced tea

AUGUST 23 DONE

After dinner I took the dog for a walk - probably around 1/2 mile. But it was something! I think I'll bring my sneakers to work tomorrow and walk at lunch. I usually get close to two miles in 35-40 minutes. I like to listen to the DIS Unplugged podcast or some rockin' Bon Jovi while I walk.

Morning all!

Dawn- :bday:

Marnie- Welcome aboard! You'll get your post count up in no time!

bunkinsmom (I'm going to print off a new cheat sheet after this!)- Good deal on joining the Y!

Jane- Awesome job on the treadmill! I know what you mean about the running!

Sheree- Great job tracking and getting some exercise in :)

After speaking with Piper's Dr, she's on Bactrim until her appt next Wednesday, hopefully that will hold things under control until then. We are walking in the evenings, but had to scale back to a mile since she got no exercise at her Dad's. I'll be happy when she's built her endurance back up (so will she!) LOL. I got work yesterday, but will still track everyday since I'm not doing that and 1000 other things at the same time!

Tracking-
Breakfast- Eggbeaters omelette w/ low sodium ham & FF cheese, english muffin w/ brummel & brown, pineapple.
Lunch- Taco salad w/ ground chicken, 1 soft taco shell, and RF sour cream.
Dinner- 96% lean burger, 35 cal heiner's toast, tomatoes, peas, brown rice.

Hey guys, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still alive....I've been swamped by this homework monster for the past few days, but hopefully I can fight him off for a little bit later to respond to all you guys! Hope you're having a great week!

Thank you for the welcomes. I am a pretty shy person (only 4 posts now in almost 3 years :woohoo: ), but am trying to come out of my shell a little by joining this thread. :) I have followed the Weight Watchers plan before with success, so I will be following that plan on my own again. I am hoping that by joining you all that I will be able to keep with it this time, stop the weight loss yo-yoing, and not get discouraged and fall off the wagon, or raft in this case :yay:, again. This time I am also going to make sure I work harder to get exercising in as well. My son and I are going to Disney again in October so I am hoping that I will have lost at least some weight before we go and will be walking a few miles a day so this trip won't be as hard on my body.

Thanks for the support everyone! I guess I was having a bit of a rough week, but I'm moving on. The new plan for the stupid cabinet is to just repaint it with a different color. There are sections of it where the paint just can't be stripped because it's particle board. I've read that trying to remove paint from that would just tear it apart. I don't know what I was thinking when I painted this darn thing in the first place. Probably watched one too many episodes of "Trading Spaces" and thought I was being just brilliant. Um, nope.

:bday: Happy birthday Dawn! I'm sorry I missed it, but I hope it was awesome.

:welcome: Marnie! This is a great place to come out of your shell and we're glad to have you.

Aimee, are you liking your hair any better now? Any luck with styling? The last time I got my hair cut, she styled it in a way that I really didn't like. But after a day, I decided it looked kinda good. Of course, I can never fix it the way she does, but I've been trying real hard.

Amanda, I know what you mean about having to return clothes that don't fit. This year I finally had to break down and  take the kids shopping with me! Oh the horrors (for them)! How is she feeling?

Sheree, I have to admit I have no willpower. There are some foods that if I start eating them, I just cannot stop. The only thing that I have found that works is to take a small amount and then put the rest out of sight.

Julie, I can't believe you booked another trip :wizard: Our next trip isn't until February and we're going to Disneyland for a change. It still seems so far away to me.

Bree, how did I miss your birthday, too? So if it's not too late :bday: Is Lucas finally on the mend?

Jane and Susan, you asked about my son (the grouchy one). He's 13 and is now in the 8th grade. He's incredibly bright, but also socially awkward and incredibly shy. He's got ADD and is somewhat immature for his age as well. So the other kids see him as "weird", and in 8th grade quirky is the last thing you want to be. He was OK in elementary school up until about 5th grade, then the teasing started. And because of the way the schools are zoned araound here, all of his elementary school friends go to a different middle school than him so he feels very alone. He does have a few friends but he "feels" like he doesn't. I've reminded him over and over again about the friends he does have, but he just tends to focus on the negative. When he brings up the negative stuff, I try to counter it with pointing out the positivies. Sometimes I think I take this too far, maybe he things I'm not acknowledging his feelings at all :confused3 He is in the band and that has helped a bit, but getting him to try other clubs or activities is challenging. I make him go to the church Religious Ed activities even though he hates them. I think he's just scared of being hurt or rejected yet again. I know he's just a late bloomer and eventually he'll be OK... but I just hate watching him go through these tough years. :sad1:

I'm feeling a little quesy this morning for some reason. Trying to eat a healthy, balanced breakfast that's easy on the belly is no fun. I had some tea & a piece of dry toast. Maybe it will settle ok on my tummy. Here's my tracking for yesterday.

Monday, August 23rd
Bfast: 2 slices Oat & Nut Bread, FF Vanilla Greek Yogurt (330)
Lunch: Big Salad w/ lettuce, tomato & cucumber, 2 slices turkey breast & 1/2 c. shredded cheese, 2 tbsp. Roasted Red Pepper Hummus w/ 12 RF Wheat Thins (617)
Dinner: Leftover spaghetti from sunday lunch (552)
Snack: 90 Cal Snickers Ice Cream Bar (90)

Total Cals: 1589

Tracking for yesterday...

B-fast: 1/2 pc toast
Lunch: Chicken breast & a whole cucumber (pickle size)
Dinner: Grilled chicken, white rice, tons of green beans & 10oz 1% milk
Snack: 1 sugar cookie and approx. 3/4 c mixed berry cobbler
Drinks: 3 Diet cokes & 12oz of water

Observations:

1. I need to drink less DC and more water. This is my thing. I get on a water kick for a while and then, fall off the wagon. I love my DC and admit it is a problem.
2. I should try to eat more for breakfast. Honestly, I am not one of those, "I just can't eat in the morning" type people. I can eat. I like breakfast. It's just that school has just started and DS leaves at 7:15, DD at 7:45 and I leave at 8:05. DH has never helped in the morning- I accepted that LOOOONG ago. I need to find my routine and figure this whole thing out.
3. Cookies and cobbler are not the norm although they were yummy. DS had Court of Honor for Boy Scouts last night and these were the refreshments. However, I knew that it would be something not diet friendly so I had restricted my snacking earlier in the day.

I'm so mad at myself today! I forgot to bring my sneakers and walking clothes to walk during lunch! And it's a beautiful day! And I have time!!!
Dang it!
I'm going to go grocery shopping tonight and stock up on my healthy foods for meals and snacks. I have found that when I eat the worst is when I haven't planned a meal. I just grab whatever's there. So I'm going to make sure that whatever's there is a good choice. But DH wants to come with me - so I know there will be some *ahem* "extras" purchased. He needs his chips!

Alright ladies (and Patrick)...

WE ARE FULLY BOOKED FOR THE JANUARY DISNEY TRIP!!
:cool1::lovestruc:banana::wizard::love::cloud9::woohoo::yay::dance3:

Alright, enough with the smileys...you get the picture. I'm excited. :lmao:

I'm going to get a PTR started right after this post but I just HAD to tell my WISH friends first.

The trip has been extended by two nights (gotta love that fuzzy Disney math) since Randy got his Winter semester schedule yesterday so we knew the dates were clear and when I went to book the flights today I found that they had come down $160 so we're only paying the ridiculously low difference of $70 for the two nights and the dining plan upgrade.

Okay, that's all I'm telling ya...after this you'll need to find your way over to the PTR if you want more details!!

Sorry Jane, the recipes are going to have to wait one more day!! :sad2:

Marnie – when in October will you be at WDW? We’ll be there Oct 2 – 11, staying at the Beach Club Villas for the first time. I’ve been trying to build up my stamina for our trip as well. Of course now that I’m back to exercising and want to walk in the evenings we are having the first heat wave of the summer. I’m hoping it will cool down before it gets too late so we can walk tonight. Or maybe I’ll be able to talk Jim into going to the Y to swim.

Barb – Ahhh, 13. That explains a lot. My older son has Aspergers so he really was a social outcast at that age. He was very lucky that he had one friend that stuck with him through Kindergarten but it was rough during school when he was the awkward kid that would just walk the school yard during breaks because his friend didn’t go to the same school. Now my younger one was just moody and negative all on his own. Maybe the next time he starts to complain just sympathize and ask him to try and brainstorm ideas about how he can change his situation. When I’m complaining to my husband I don’t want him to point out the good stuff, I want someone to just agree that my feelings are valid and help me figure out how to get past it. Good luck – it WILL get better. Joining the church group or any other organized group (has he ever been interested in Scouts?) will help get him out and about and hopefully will help him figure out how to deal with situations.

Jessica – I did used to be one of those “I don’t like to eat breakfast” people. Now I don’t know how I got through the morning without it. I have a lot of quick breakfasts on hand. I keep a bag of raisin bran, measuring cup and bowl at my desk at work and just use the milk they provide for coffee and I have a breakfast that I can eat at my desk while I’m checking email in the morning. Lately I’ve been eating yogurt, fruit and a hard boiled egg. My DH was never home in the morning to help with the kids so I know how frustrating that can be to try and make sure you have everything. You’ll get back into the swing of school/work morning departure soon.

Sheree – Don’t you hate forgetting your stuff? I’ve gotten all the way to the gym without socks or tennis shoes! Duh!

Julie – no worries on the recipes. Congratulations on booking the trip! I wish I was as good at Disney Fuzzy math, never works in my favor. Can’t wait to hop on your PTR to read all about your plans!

I’m home this afternoon waiting on a service repair man (sometime between 12 and 5). I’ve got Disney music playing in the background and will be working on work budgets this afternoon. I hope I’ll be able to stay out of the kitchen and cruising the fridge. So far the food has gone really well so I want to keep it that way.

Jane - :sad1: We will be there October 15-24 and staying at Pop, both for the first time. The last couple of times we were there was over the busy Thanksgiving week. So, during the last trip we decided we need to try a different time of the year, one that is hopefully not nearly as busy and where Coty will not miss more than 3 days of school. So, we are hoping that this week will not be as busy since it is just Fall Break and not Thanksgiving Break. Keeping our fingers crossed.

I think you're right, I just need to be here and listen to him. He was in Cub Scouts but dropped during his Senior Webelos year. He and the Cubmaster had a long talk about it before he dropped, but the end result was that DS just does not like camping. And the Cubmaster told him that really you can't advance unless you go camping a lot. I wish I had known more back then and tried to find him a troop that was a better fit. Thanks for the encouragement!

Tracking for today:

B: crispix cereal w/ 1%
one bite of bagel w/ cc
L: Lean Cuisine Fettuciine Alfredo, pineapple, blueberries
S: Peach pie (dang co-worker), Luna Bar, Pretzel M&Ms, kettle corn
D: Shrimp poppers w/ szechuan sauce, cheddar cheese

Too many snacks today, not enough food at meals. But I drank a lot of water and tonight the WHOLE famdamily went grocery shopping. It took twice as long as it takes me by myself! But I got some healthy snacks. Unfortunately we got more things that I really don't need in the house! Grrrr.

Is anyone else nervous about eating eggs now?

Victories today:

I did not go through the McD's drive thru for breakfast this morning after taking DS7 to school. Something I've done a many a morning after taking him to school. Especially first day of school, first day back after holiday etc.

I did not get seconds at dinner tonight.

I only ate 1/3 of the small slice of carrot cake and gave the rest to DH.

Things I could have done better:

Not made meatloaf and mashed potatoes and green beans cooked with bacon for dinner.

It's what DS7 wanted for his first day of school celebratory dinner. And boy was it yummy. Unfortunately. But like I said earlier, no seconds for me! Huge change in behavior.

Not shared a regular soda with DS2 while at the grocery store this afternoon.

There were some definitely pros and cons today.

Ready to hit it again tomorrow! So excited to be back on a routine!

pixiedust: Happy Happy Birthday Dawn!! pixiedust: Hope you had a fabulous weekend away!

Will re-send weigh in info now!

I'll be back tomorrow to comment on everything and hopefully post last week's trackers! Don't wanna get behind again. Should have more time tomorrow during the day. Hopefully!

DS7 had a fabulous day back! He loves his teacher... so far. Hoping for a fabulous year !!

Night everyone! :goodvibes

Good morning all!

Barb- Piper is doing okay, she's coughing up a lot of junk, which is a good thing/bad thing. Good thing to get it out of her lungs, but also an indication of a pretty raging lung infection. Sorry I can't be more helpful about your son, no boys for me, and learning as I go along.

Julie- Woohoo for being fully booked!

Patrick- Here's hoping that the homework will ease off some for you, we miss you around here!

Jessica- Is there something you can take with you to eat at/on the way to work? I know there are a lot of recipes out there for breakfast cookie/muffin type of deals. :goodvibes:

Sheree- The whole famdamily thing cracked me up, we use the same term! I always take a list with a couple of things on it that Piper can choose and that helps with the "impulse" buys. I can't imagine taking 3 or 4 other people with us though!

Aimee- Great job skipping the drive thru and second helpings! The carrot cake sounds yummy! (One of my faves, I couldn't have one in the house, I don't think.)

So it's pouring down rain right now, I'll either have to do a dvd or wiifit to burn cals today...not sure which one. Piper was able to walk 1.5 miles last night, wasn't planned, she wanted to go in a different direction and it wasn't mapped out. She was proud of herself when we mapped it. She's having a blast being back in a classroom after being homebound last year, hopefully she'll be able to stay there, we'll see. Last year she had an IV run right before school started and ended up being back in hosp within two weeks of going back to school, so we decided to pull her. A lot will depend on what we find out at her appt next Wed. Nothing else too exciting going on here, I'm plugging away on work (letters this time instead of envelopes) and trying to stay on track food-wise.

Tracking-
Breakfast- English muffin w/ RF pb, peach.
Lunch- Lean Cuisine Apple Cranberry Chicken.
Dinner- Burritos with ground chicken, FF cheddar, RF sour cream and tomatoes.. peas.
Snacks- 100 cal Klondike, pineapple, yogurt, granola thin, Live Active pudding.

Cals- 1558 (1520-1870)
Exercise- 4 miles in the am, 1.5 in the pm with Piper.

Well, not too bad yesterday. I can tell that I'm slipping a little bit (getting lazy and not eating my best choices, even though i'm staying within my points.). No veggies with dinner. Too many carbs. So I'll have to work on that again. It just kind of creeps up on me.
Poor hubby was  yesterday. Told me this AM, he lost 15lbs!!! I know most of that is water loss, but WOW!!! Really hoping I don't catch it. Garren had a lighter version of this stomach bug on Saturday, but he only got sick a couple times. Poor hubby was miserable. He decided to stay home one more day today, just to recoup a little bit, but it looks like it's over.

I've got a question for everyone. DH and I are planning a date night for Saturday evening to celebrate our 15th anniversary. :lovestruc Probably just dinner and a movie (if there is anything on that we like). Anyone have a suggestion on where you would go for dinner? Somewhere with good choices, but still tasty.
I usually do Applebees when I go out with "the girls" because there are options I like that have the points/calories/fat counted out. BUT, hubby is not a fan. He likes steak places. We both like seafood. He's not a fan of pasta places (says their pasta sauce tastes like it came from a jar.)
So, any suggestions which I could look up the points in advance or which include the calories and fat, etc. on the menu?? I'm hoping to be good enough that I can still have a LITTLE bit of popcorn at the movie. I LOVE that stuff! But I want to eat right the rest of the day and stay within my points. (So I'll probably go vegetarian at lunch.)
Any ideas??? Somewhere with a healthy and tasty veggie option would be FANTASTIC!!! Like in the 6-8 point range for your WW fans!
Thanks!!! :worship:

Have a great day everyone!!!
Susan
