When Did Everyone Start Dressing Like Strippers?

Welcome to Florida! In case you didn't know ;) , it's hot here. People dress for the weather, whether they are big or small, thin or heavy, or anything in between. DH and I go to WDW 6-8 times a year (we're 2 hours away) and people at the World don't dress any differently than people in our town. You guys must all be from Up North! :rotfl2:

The only difference between those that are dressed revealing and those that are not.....is that those that are could care less that you're not.

People are really dressing like this in WDW? This is outrageous. Do you have any pics to help illustrate this? :teeth:

WDW attracts people from all walks of life. Some people do not have class and clothing is an expression of your personality. When we travel to other destinations that attract a different type of guest, I never see inappropriate clothing on women. I do see some women not dressing thier age, which is completely different...they are covered but they dress like they are 20 when they are 50, but that's ok.

I think Oprah did a show on this not too long ago. Very interesting...most people thought they look good that way...Hello :wave2: you look like a fool.

Just because you have a good figure (or think you do) does not mean it has to be exposed. You can still be cool and comfortable in the Fla heat. Actually the coolest thing you can wear is a Tee shirt. The more bare you are the hotter you are. Loose fitting cotton is the best way to go.
I am not a prude, I don't like seeing someone's butt or **** and mostly I really hate having to sit on a ride or the monorail where someone's nearly bare butt has just been......Also men with very hairy backs that walk around shirtless or with a muscle shirt....that's appalling as well.

And people wonder why the monorail smells Funky :rotfl2:

We saw a lady during our last trip who had on a short leather mini skirt, very high heels, big giant hair and she turned around and had to be in her 70s!! I know my mouth just dropped!

The world we live in is FULL of distractions.
So many things are going on (100 TV channels, movies, radio, sattelite radio) that people are (or appear to be) for the most part "distracted".

To get attention (good or bad, makes no difference as long as your looking) people/things/places have moved in the past 30 years towards *More Shocking*.

*More Shocking* gets eyes. Eyes represent the ever craved Attention, thus the skimpy clothes, the over abundance of tatttoos (which the skimpy clothes show-off/highlight) the wild hair color etc.

I'm no sociologist, but I can draw a pretty clear connection between low self esteem and an exagerated need for attention ("Look at me Mom. Look. Look. Look. Look at me. Look, Mom. Look").

Still not being a Sociologist, I can see that people with a healthy self esteem and a good sense of self worth are comfortable with themselves and don't need constant affirmation and attention.

And in conclusion, having never been a sociologist, I can use my common sense and claim that a person who would imply that those who dress provacativly deserve to have a bad fate befall them, is a "bunghole".

No matter how many times that you say it, that is not the ONLY difference. Though I admit that I am sure it is a difference...and with good reason. Why would they care if someone is dressed in casual, unrevealing, tasteful clothes?! Nothing offensive about that.

Nothing will shock me anymore after I saw a woman at the Magic Kingdom a few years ago wearing just shorts and a BRA. No, not a bikini top, an actual lace bra :earseek:

It was a hot day, I'll give her that, but come on!

well I mean cut her some slack here...maybe she just mistook Main Street U.S.A. for the Victoria's Secret Runway show!? :teeth:

My DH is hairy. He wears a muscle shirt and goes shirtless at the pool. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. This is the way he was made. Why should he have to wax, shave, or otherwise get ride of body hair because you think it is gross? Why do people care what other people look like? You are responsible for you PERIOD. I think there is alot more to life than 'soapboxing' on why your opinion is better than anyone else's. When we go on vacation we are there to have fun, not belittle others.

PS - Please note my tattoo in my picture - I have 7 more like it. Alot of people think it is gross, unladylike, and I must be a bad mother. You can guess how much I care what you think! :rolleyes1

Do you think she rode splash mountain????

We as a society may not always agree on what others wear. What one thinks is appropriate another may consider "tacky" or "classless".

But.......
Isn't it great that we have the freedom to make those choices?
If a woman wakes up and decides she wants to wear a short skirt and tube top that day isn't it nice to know she has that option without being thrown in jail or beaten by her husband?

We are lucky to have that choice to make every morning as to what we want to put on our bodies instead of having to be covered from head to toe with nothing showing but our eyes.

You may not agree with the clothing choice the person next to you made that day but respect the fact that it's their right to dress as they want. And then simply look away.

I'm glad we have the choice too...I just wish a few of the people I saw busting out at the seams would have chosen clothing that was more appropriate for a family friendly evironment like WDW.

:rotfl: :rotfl: wasn't sure exactly what "tarted up" meant but truthfully she's more covered up than 1/2 the people i see at the grocery store :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have an arguement to make:

Those of you who are defending everyone's rights to wear revealing clothing have one thing right - the clothing styles and choices of others are no one elses concern. But that has limits, just as a person's right to smoke has limits - it's entirely up to you, but only up to the point where it starts to directly affect others.

The clothing that I don't care for it not the older woman dressing too "young" for their age, or even the guys who wear muscle shirts and look like they have sweaters on underneath. The clothing I don't care for is the stuff that is so sheer or skimpy that it actually fails to cover those parts of the body that are required by law to be covered.

Would you be in favor of woman running around the parks topless? How about the water parks? Except for a few guys who might jokingly say, "HECK YEAH!", I doubt that anybody would approve of topless women in the theme parks, water parks, or resort pools. But I see no difference between a woman who is actually wearing no top and a woman who wears a transparent top, or a top that is so baggy that it is easy to see inside of it whenever she moves around.

That's just one example, but there are others. My point is that I'm not complaining about people's style choices or judging their relative "morality" based on their clothing; I'm complaining about nudity and faux nudity (i.e. clothing that does not actually cover up) in the parks.

There is just a huge, huge amount of exaggeration going on in this thread. DH and I go to the parks regularly (we are 2 hours away) and we have never seen the "inappropriate" stuff that people are going on and on about. So I REALLY don't think it's commonplace at the parks.

I understand what your saying but you can't compare dressing skimpily to smoking. Someone else's second hand smoke could kill me. Someone else's butt cheeks hanging out might offend me, but it won't kill me.

And having a revealing top on is not the same as being totally nude.

I wonder if the CM's ever do say anything to the peope who are truly showing too much. It's up to the parks to make that decision. I'd like to think if something was truly inappropriate they would ask the person to cover up. :confused3

Isn't it great that we not only have the freedom to dress the way we want, we also have the freedom to debate it in forums like this and freely state our opinions? Hopefully with no one getting too upset. :flower:

I say thank you to all the those who choose clothes that make themselves look ridiculous for three reasons:

1. Its entertaining to discuss how horrible people dress. :smooth:

2. Its educational, now I know what doesn't work. So I can steer my children away from particular fashions.

3. It is eye opening. Hey, they look tacky in all that WDW merchandise, why I'd never...Oh yeah, thats my Goofy Hat, thanks. :earboy2:
