When did DL get so expensive?

I love being on a message board where taking one Disney trip every year qualifies as an "only". :thumbsup2

Hehe... so true. We are humbled and know we are truly blessed... since my youngest was 2 months old in Minnie's arms at her house in ToonTown, we knew we wanted to build these memories, and for 13 years we have found a way to make it happen at least once each year. It has not always been easy. Every year, we say we may not be able to afford it... every year it seems the cost is out of control... every year we find a way. And next week we'll be there again.. spending over $1000 just for tickets. I don't like it, but truth be told, it is worth every penny to us :thumbsup2

BTW... can I just say

As much as I dislike the increases that seem to be coming stronger all the time, if given the choice between going to DL and experiencing amazing new things like WoC, Carsland, etc or going to some SixFlags park that may not cost as much and is getting worn out, I will pay the extra $$$ for the quality, care and the new experiences every time :goodvibes

My parents took me in the mid to late 80's for $21 per day. No wonder we went so often.

Well, then don't forget to add in the cost of ticket books.

And that was only for one Park.

The ticket books were gone by June of 1982, so that didn't apply to us in the mid to late 80's. And until June 2012, the 2nd DLR Park arguably wasn't that magical.

Forgive me, my memory was off by 3 years. And whether you liked DCA or not prior to this year, you cannot argue with the fact that there was a second theme park that you were now getting access to with attractions, entertainment, decor, characters, etc.... You were getting more offerings that previously.

...Disneyland guests need to get used to ticket prices doubling every 10 years or so. In 2022, a one-day, one-park adult ticket will likely cost between $160 and $180 per day.
I paid $12 to see James Bond "Skyfall" last night. 10 years ago, that movie would have cost me $7. I don't think Disney is the exception to the rule when it comes to non-essential, luxury purchases. (Yes, yes, Disney is essential for me too, but you know what I mean. :goodvibes)

I agree! There are lots of complications in life... some families never get to visit DL and some do. Some families are trying to fight cancer, etc. Be happy that you've at least been fortunate enough to visit the Magic!

I very much agree. The investment in the reboot of California Adventure has been huge success, and Disney needs to collect on the investment.

As has already been noted, the parks are very busy. Ticket prices might need to go up to limit crowds.

I hope Disney invests in more park expansions, even if this means higher prices.

Disney tickets and trips are expensive. Very. But so are a host of other premium entertainment options...

1. One day adult single park ticket at DLR: $87 ($125 for a park hopper)

Up to 16 hours of entertainment

2. Vail Ski Resort - Holiday adult lift ticket per day: $109

About seven hours of skiing

3. A ticket to the Broncos-Chargers game this coming Sunday (cheapest I could find in a quick search) - $190

A three hour game

4. Tickets to see Wicked on Broadway this Friday $100-250

A 2-3 hour show

5. Whitewater rafting on the Colorado River full day $75

Six hours.

6. James Bond Skyfall movie at my local theater - $9.50

2+ hour movie

I think Disney trips are good value for your entertainment dollars. But it is still expensive. :)

I'm just grateful that there are payment plans available! Speaking of which I only have 3 payments left before my February trip :D I never thought I'd be so excited to pay an invoice every month, lol

It's starting to price it's self out of our vacation budget too...both DL and DW. We loved going because it was a cheap and easy vacation. But when I priced our next trip then compared it to cruises to locations we've never been to before - the cruises are pricing cheaper per day.

Lower prices can be a double-edged sword. It is nice when prices are low. But if prices are too low it can appeal to a lower quality demographic like that which has happened at Six Flags parks (like Magic Mountain which has had lots of issues with gangs). Then you are vacationing with people you may not want to be vacationing with. Higher prices reduces that possibility.
