When did DISboards start? Any old timers out there?

I dont' even know what DIS means. (Disney infomation society?)

I'm an old timer myself. Three months about. ;)

I've been meaning to ask for awhile...did you participate in a Christmas ornament swap way, way back? I still have the one I got from an Amy and wondered if it was you.

I've been here since 1997 or 98....lost my sign in at some point then finally just re-registered. I really only remember one board so maybe I didn't get around much. Like Peg said, it was difficult to follow a popular thread since with the format it was in the replies would roll right off the page!

I organized the first Christmas ornament swap back in 1999, I think (my "real" name is Aimee).

I have been here a long time - either 1998 or early 1999 - we got married in 8/98 and I planned our honeymoon on the boards.:)

I can't remember for sure. My first trip to WDW was in 1996. I researched online but can't recall everything I found. I suspect I found the DIS in 98 or so and didn't register right away.

I joined September 6,2000. I was planning my first onsite trip. It was so,exciting!

....LIAR! YOU came here just to check out the eyebrows...popcorn::

Oh, yeah...;)

I found the boards in May, 1998. ...Primarily looking to talk about DVC.

We had joined in April 1997, and I recall wishing that I had found the boards prior to our purchase.

I remember Richyams, too - often think about him as we enter the HM. ...and when we walk the long hallways at the BWV. :rolleyes1

I logged in within minutes of the "new boards" coming up in August 1999 so I could keep my "non-unique" user name. ...Prior to then, there were several "Beth's." :)

Richyams and long hallways...that bring back lots of memories...

I am old.......started moderating in 2000 and was here a few years before that...maybe 1998 0R 7

I've been around for a while. I came here for info and discovered the Inspiration Board that was run by Ahnalira. I loved that! Later on I was on the Debate Board and that was fun for a while. I think that I got most of my post count on those two boards. :)

Things are a lot different around here than back in those early days. Chat was a hoot.

Joined in January 2000 when I was planning our first family trip. I learned sooo much from the DIS that year and our trip was just amazing!

Like others have said, I lost many posts in the "great crashes" of years past! But 11 years and 12 trips later, I still still log on at least once a day to keep up with the boards. Love the DIS! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Yup add me to the long list of 'old timer's' that lost their post count. I never did really post a whole lot-but chat sure was fun. And I do remember when Pete used to post on most of the threads, when he first move the operation down to Florida, etc, etc.
It is fun to see how the site has grown and expanded into new ventures.

You're right; the old debate board was something else, though I didn't post on it much. I mostly stayed on the sidelines reading, probably looking like this:  Some of the political threads should have been labeled "enter at your own risk." :lmao:

One of my fond memories of the old days was Richyams. He cracked me up, especially over on the DVC boards where he would comment on the shortcomings of BWV. Fun stuff. :rotfl: So sad when he passed away.

There for a while, I spent a lot of time on the Debate board arguing with Richyams. Fun times!

I never understood what happened in those crashes. I lost posts in an early one but never lost anything later on. At least I don't think that I did.

I registered in 2001 after being on the AOL Disney boards for a few years. There was a poster named Nic who was a very overbearing member and who like to say "don't get your panties in a twist" all the time. That was the first time I ever heard that saying. After lurking on RAD for a while, a few people started talking about the DIS, so I checked it out and here I am.

The first person I remember noticing here was RobinRS because I was planning my first Universal trip and read mainly those boards.

I've been around a while myself. I mostly lurk. In fact I think I lurked for about a year before I ever even had my first post. Lots of changes in my life since then (for the better!)

And I still mostly lurk. ;)

Almost everyone you see with a join date of August 1999 has been here longer.

They switched software or something, and every member's join date became 10/99 and their post counts were reset to zero.
Actually it was a system crash.

.......When did DISboards start?....
In its earliest configuration, June of '97. I came by the board in March of '99, while planning a Dec '99 family trip to Disney World. A number of mention of crashes and lost posts above, the boards did crash, very often, back then. Sometimes post counts were lost. In August of '99, the boards went to new software, requiring that everyone register (not required prior to that), and a move away from the threaded format to the linear format that it is now. Everyone had to reregister, so earliest dates show as Aug '99 (except Mary Jo and Pete, because they can manually change whatever they want in that profile area). In April of '00, the boards switched from the awful Ipop software platform :scared1: to the current vBulletin platform. My start date shows April '00; for whatever reason, I, and several other moderator type people, had to reregister in order to be online right after the switchover and able to moderate (was co-moderator on the community board back when they had people with names instead of the team thing they have now) in the early hours immediately after the switch. Posters, within a day or so after the switch, did not have to reregister, so many maintained their August date. You can still see some posters who are, like alex, or a fair number who were, doing the moderator thing, with that April '00 date. I did the moderator thing for about two years, walked away from that in early '02. :yay: :woohoo: Here was a lineup from back then, http://web.archive.org/web/20001020203250/http://www.wdwinfo.com/disteam/index.htm most gone now, various ways and reasons, some nice people, some not.

Earliest I can find on Wayback is May of 2000. http://web.archive.org/web/20000510043404/http://www.wdwinfo.com/

The board has led me to know many people, meet many people, be friends with many people, good friends with a good number of people, most, or all, whom I would never have met. The Internet is good.

I have been around so long, I may need to checked for mold....:lmao:
