I dont' even know what DIS means. (Disney infomation society?)
I'm an old timer myself. Three months about.
I'm an old timer myself. Three months about.

I've been meaning to ask for awhile...did you participate in a Christmas ornament swap way, way back? I still have the one I got from an Amy and wondered if it was you.
I've been here since 1997 or 98....lost my sign in at some point then finally just re-registered. I really only remember one board so maybe I didn't get around much. Like Peg said, it was difficult to follow a popular thread since with the format it was in the replies would roll right off the page!

I found the boards in May, 1998. ...Primarily looking to talk about DVC.
We had joined in April 1997, and I recall wishing that I had found the boards prior to our purchase.
I remember Richyams, too - often think about him as we enter the HM. ...and when we walk the long hallways at the BWV.
I logged in within minutes of the "new boards" coming up in August 1999 so I could keep my "non-unique" user name. ...Prior to then, there were several "Beth's."![]()
Youve got it - that was what DIS stood for.I think in the beginning it stood for Disney Information Station.
You're right; the old debate board was something else, though I didn't post on it much. I mostly stayed on the sidelines reading, probably looking like this:Some of the political threads should have been labeled "enter at your own risk."
One of my fond memories of the old days was Richyams. He cracked me up, especially over on the DVC boards where he would comment on the shortcomings of BWV. Fun stuff. So sad when he passed away.
I never understood what happened in those crashes. I lost posts in an early one but never lost anything later on. At least I don't think that I did.Joined in January 2000 when I was planning our first family trip. I learned sooo much from the DIS that year and our trip was just amazing!
Like others have said, I lost many posts in the "great crashes" of years past! But 11 years and 12 trips later, I still still log on at least once a day to keep up with the boards. Love the DIS!![]()
Actually it was a system crash.Almost everyone you see with a join date of August 1999 has been here longer.
They switched software or something, and every member's join date became 10/99 and their post counts were reset to zero.
In its earliest configuration, June of '97. I came by the board in March of '99, while planning a Dec '99 family trip to Disney World. A number of mention of crashes and lost posts above, the boards did crash, very often, back then. Sometimes post counts were lost. In August of '99, the boards went to new software, requiring that everyone register (not required prior to that), and a move away from the threaded format to the linear format that it is now. Everyone had to reregister, so earliest dates show as Aug '99 (except Mary Jo and Pete, because they can manually change whatever they want in that profile area). In April of '00, the boards switched from the awful Ipop software platform.......When did DISboards start?....
