When did DISboards start? Any old timers out there?

I joined the DIS in January 2000 when I was planning my 1st trip to WDW.

In February 2000, a group of us met in front of the Disney Store at Southpark Mall. After initial greetings we wandered down to the food court to get coffee/food and chat further.

Thus, the NE Ohio DISer's group was born! I just got the photo album out and in attendance were: Epcotkilterfan, Dan & Scott, RNMom,Pembo & family (she only had 2 DS's at the time, DD would come years later!), Towncrier & his DW, Sue. I also remember a DISer named Steve (can't remember his last name) was there. This was the 1st time I baked my famous Mickey cookies with lime green frosting.

Almost everyone you see with a join date of August 1999 has been here longer.

They switched software or something, and every member's join date became 10/99 and their post counts were reset to zero.

Yup. I was around before Aug 1999. I recall going though at least two board upgrades that zero'd out my post count.

Posting to see me join date. Looks like March 2001. We were planning a trip with the whole family. DD was only 2! the time has gone so fast.

I started posting in 2002. My first trip, as an adult, was in 2001 and I remember lurking here in preparation of that trip.

Lots of changes in 10 years. Where does the time go?

2000 for me too. We were planning my sons first WDW and DCL.

I remember the old debate board. What fun we had on there.

I've got that Aug 1999 date too. Funny though, I thought it was accurate.

I did join somewhere right around Aug 1999, maybe July 1999, but I was too new to notice the crash maybe.

Nope, sorry, Abbie, I've never participated in any of the swaps. Must've been another Amy!

You're right; the old debate board was something else, though I didn't post on it much. I mostly stayed on the sidelines reading, probably looking like this: Some of the political threads should have been labeled "enter at your own risk."

One of my fond memories of the old days was Richyams. He cracked me up, especially over on the DVC boards where he would comment on the shortcomings of BWV. Fun stuff. So sad when he passed away.

Mine says Jan 2000 but I think it was in 98/99.....I know my date got reset during one of the crashes....

I know I started lurking here after my first disastrous 2001 Easter trip. I had only read Birnbaum's that I had bought at our now long gone Disney store.

Can you imagine I seriously thought "No one will be there during a major holiday. They will all be with their families." That is how little I knew.

The line for Dumbo wrapped past the carousel down to Snow White's Scary Adventure. I remember crying under tree so dissappointed the wait was so long we couldn't ride a single ride without missing our dinner reservation.

So I came back very determined to learn more, lurked for awhile then joined before our first cruise in 2003. I'm still learning. I just bought "The Complete Guide to WDW" that I just found out about. The pictures are beautiful I the ride descriptions are so interesting!

It was definitely way different back then! Much less drama, much less hysterics, much less But change happens, and the DIS boards are still here and we're all still loving Disney, and that's what counts!

Let's see....I found the Dis thru a search engine...probably not Google, I didn't use it (or maybe it wasn't around in those ancient times!) sometime in 1997. I was using a computer at work since I didn't have one at home yet! And the computer at work was the only one with internet access, so you had to jump on it at lunch time. (now everyone in the company has internet access). I didn't join, just lurked & was mostly on the Theme Park board. Then I got a home computer in 1998, and my sister-in-law & I were planning a trip for 1999, so I joined. Got lots of great info & I remember coming back to post after we got home to praise the way the CMs handled the 'fun' of Hurricane Floyd.

I stayed away for a while, so I missed the crashes. Sometime in 2000, I came back & couldn't remember my user name so I created a new one. (I didn't know I could email anyone to recover it). Stayed away for a while after that, but came back for good in when planning a trip in 2004. Somehow I found the CB & got hooked! Now the only time I'm not here is when I'm at WDW!

My join date says Feb of 2000, but I actually joined in 1998 when planning our first family trip to WDW. I lurked and then joined to post my review of the HI express we stayed in before moving to POFQ. I suffered along with the other posters through the early crashes of the site.

DD had just turned 6 and was in first grade when we went. She just finished her freshman year in college.

I am also listed as joining "Aug. 1999" (after the crash). I remember, however, reading and posting on these boards in 96 or '97. If I remember correctly, there were originally 3 boards - 1. Themeparks and Attractions, 2. DVC board, and 3. a recipe board for using your DVC kitchens! Too funny! It's amazing how this whole site has grown. I still check it every day - whether or not I am planning a trip.

I found the boards in May, 1998. ...Primarily looking to talk about DVC.

We had joined in April 1997, and I recall wishing that I had found the boards prior to our purchase.

I remember Richyams, too - often think about him as we enter the HM. ...and when we walk the long hallways at the BWV.

I logged in within minutes of the "new boards" coming up in August 1999 so I could keep my "non-unique" user name. ...Prior to then, there were several "Beth's."
