.......When did DISboards start?....
In its earliest configuration, June of '97. I came by the board in March of '99, while planning a Dec '99 family trip to Disney World. A number of mention of crashes and lost posts above, the boards did crash, very often, back then. Sometimes post counts were lost. In August of '99, the boards went to new software, requiring that everyone register (not required prior to that), and a move away from the threaded format to the linear format that it is now. Everyone had to reregister, so earliest dates show as Aug '99 (except Mary Jo and Pete, because they can manually change whatever they want in that profile area). In April of '00, the boards switched from the awful Ipop software platform

to the current vBulletin platform. My start date shows April '00; for whatever reason, I, and several other moderator type people, had to reregister in order to be online right after the switchover and able to moderate (was co-moderator on the community board back when they had people with names instead of the team thing they have now) in the early hours immediately after the switch. Posters, within a day or so after the switch, did not have to reregister, so many maintained their August date. You can still see some posters who are, like alex, or a fair number who were, doing the moderator thing, with that April '00 date. I did the moderator thing for about two years, walked away from that in early '02.

Here was a lineup from back then,

Earliest I can find on Wayback is May of 2000.

The board has led me to know many people, meet many people, be friends with many people, good friends with a good number of people, most, or all, whom I would never have met. The Internet is good.
