When did change to Banking Window Happen?

When did this change I happen? I will admit that I dont always pay attention, but just saw a post about it and was not aware of it.

The only thing I ever made sure of was to know when I could bank my points at 100%. So, I knew I had to have my plans ready by August 31st, because my use year is March. That way I would not lose them.

So, what is the change, and does anyone know why it was changed?

I have not received anything in the mail, but when I added on a couple of weeks ago, and when others have called their guide, that is when we found out. The new guideline is simply the first 8 months of the year you can bank 100%. After that, during the last 4 months, you can not bank any points, zero. I was told it was to eliminate all of the confusion with banking deadlines. Frankly, I am sure Disney studied it and found out that this will benefit them, not eliminate confusion.

Apparently, it was/will be announced in the Fall Vacation Magic magazine. I haven't received mine yet. Believe DVC is in the process of mailing them out - some who just bought DVC received an early copy of the VM with their welcome package.

Reports say the banking change will be effective beginning with the 2008 use year.

Yes, we did get the VM, and it was in there, but doesn't go into effect until January, I don't believe.

I believe that the new guidelines do not go in effect until the 2008 use year, which would mean that if you are talking about 2007 points, the current guidelines are in effect.

Question - If my use year is September is it Sept 1-Sept 1 or Sept 31-Sept 31? So I just bought in May. I am assuming I would not have been able to use until Sept 01, 2007 and then use by Sept 01 2008 for our first set of points. Or since I bought in May were the point available right away and I only have until May 2008 to use them to Sept 01. Just asking because our fisrt DVC vacation is next August 2008 which I was thinking would put me right at the end of use year.

Anyone understand what I am talking about?

I believe you can then bank points until the end of Nov. All of April thru all of Nov would be eight months to book 100% of points.

Just received my VM stating this goies into effect Jan 2008 and that you have 8 months to bank. No other details. Didn't say you couldn't bank anything after 8 months etc...Didn't say only for 2008 use years. Very vague!

Well, if it truly is going to be as easy as it sounds;

Bank any/all of your points within the first 8 months of your use year or lose them.

I don't think I'll have a problem with it. It sure makes it easier to keep track!
