When did Beaches & Cream start taking reservations?

I'm doing our ADRs for our May trip, and Beaches & Cream just showed up as a reservation option when I did a "search for table." When did they start taking reservations?

I know some will be disappointed, but I give it a big :thumbsup2. We love eating here, but I've never been a fan of having to go on a wait list every time.

It was an option for our January trip.:thumbsup2

Well I hope that means they will still be taking walk ups. The take out counter does not have our favorites.

I thought I'd share our experience with the reservations at Beaches & Cream. This may be long…I apologize.

In December we were meeting local friends for lunch at Beaches & Cream like we do each year. I tried to make reservation for a party of 6 but the reservation system only took reservations for parties of 4 or less. I also tried calling dining reservations and was told the same thing…largest party I could book was a party of 4.

Decided to just show up at opening and see if we could get in as a party of 6. Went to the podium and asked about seating. In the past we had all managed to fit into the booths but we were told the booths were for people with reservations only. I asked about moving two tables together as was told that they would not move the tables and they were also only available for parties with reservations. They told us that since we were a "walk-up" we would be seated at the counter. I would imagine if the counter were full and there were tables and booths available you could be set there without a reservation.

Sitting at the counter trying to catch up with friends we see once a year definitely wan't my idea of fun so we ended up eating somewhere else. I was disappointed because this get-together has been somewhat of a tradition for about 15 years. This was only a couple of weeks into the new reservations system here so maybe they have made some changes that make it doable for parities of more than 4 people.

While I did appreciate being about to make reservations for my family of 4 later in the trip, the reservation system may not work for everyone.

It sounds like this ADR system at B&C does have it's glitches, some major. I'm really confused about the current system of booths for reservations and counter for walk-ups (that's what I've heard from several places). We're a couple who actually prefers to be at the counter. So does that mean we'd better NOT make a reservation, since "only" walk-ups, not reservations, get the counter? Is there usually seating available at the counter for walk-ups? For those who have walked up at B&C since they started taking ADRs, how long (if at all) did you have to wait and what time of day was it? And out of curiosity, does anyone know if this AR thing at B&C is a permanent change or for now, a temporary "try out"? It'll be a year until DH and I can get to B&C again, and frankly I'm hoping that by then they've done away with this. After all, waiting for seating at Beaches and Cream-well, it's "all part of the experience".

I'm pretty sure they started at the end of Dec. noticed that when making reservations for a last minute trip during the holidays.

I think they started taking reservations around the middle of December. We made a reservation there for last month. We were a group of 8 and had no problem making the reservation and when we got there they put a couple of the tables together for us. I love that they take reservations now! It's one of my favorite places to eat since I LOVE their ice cream and sundaes but I always hated that long wait to get in.

OP, thank you. I had no idea they made this change and this had been one of are fall backs when I did not what to tie are plans to ADRs. We will have to plan differently on our next trip.:thumbsup2

I just made an ADR for 7 for August. Also thrilled they now take reservations. We always try to stop by but sometimes the wait is too long. We are bringing family members who have never been there and can't wait to share in the kitchen sink.

I'm glad to hear they will let you book a reservation for more than 4. We will have to try again next year!

Should you make a reservation if you just want to sit at a table and have one of the huge sundaes?

Thank you. No clue that they made the change. And I told someone at Christmas to go over because of the no reservations - hopefully they didn't listen to me. :goodvibes

We were staying at BCV over the holidays and were surprised about Beaches and Cream. We always walk up, get a beeper, and go into the arcade or hang out outside. But this time, even by walking up, they wouldn't give us a beeper. So we left. A week or so later, my son and I came back from MK at about 3:00pm and wanted to eat there, stopped at the concierge, who told me that he could only book at least an hour from that time unless I wanted to walk over and get seated right now. I said that we wanted to go to our room first, but to please book the 4:00pm. He continued to talk about how we could go over right now and I said, no, 4:00 is fine, and while he was talking, the 4:00pm got taken so I said to please just book the next available.

When we got there, they said they would take walk-ups if they weren't busy and didn't have reservations, but otherwise, they just tell you to make a reservation.

I guess we will get used to it, like the Magic Bands and the FP+. Hopefully, we will be experts for our next trip :).

I'm ready for them to blow out the game room and make this restaurant a little bigger!

I would, unless you want to get one from the to-go window and sit at a table out on the porch. They don't have the full menu at the to-go window, though. I've never compared the two menus, but I do know you need to be at a table to get the kitchen sink.

We were in the World at Christmas, and it was the same then. We tried to do a walk up to meet with friends too, but the best we could do was get a cone and sit outside at one of the tables there. Too bad, because that is NOT the way I will go to B&C. We usually only go for a dessert sundae, so it is now totally off our list. No way am I going to know if I want an ice cream sundae 6 months ahead of my trip. Of course, I hate making ANY dining reservations OR ride fast passes that far ahead. It totally ruins the spontanaety of a trip. Not liking the "new" Disney so much.

Just wanted to add that you get a very limited choice from the walk up to go window.

Disney does not allow you to make spontaneous decisions any more unless you enjoy touring gift shops. Those are the only things they have not figured out how to prebook.

But just wait. In the future the Tragic Band will automatically charge and ship to your resort any item you look at for more them 30 second as Disney continues to enhance the MDE profit experience (yes I am kidding, I hope)

:rotfl: We've been wondering how long until Disney wants us to prebook to use the restrooms.

Unfortunately, you're not kidding as much as you might hope. Disney=the death of sponteniaty these days.
