When checking in...

If you make a building / room request on your reservation, do you mention it to the CM when checking in at the front desk?

John

They should already have it on the screen, but it doesn't hurt to remind them.

First I call and confirm my reservation about a week after I made it to make sure my request is listed, then I call 3 days before arriving to make sure it's still listed, and then I DEFINITELY mention it to the CM when checking in. Having said all that, I don't know if it was always necessary, but I've always gotten my request. I'll add that when we stayed at AKL in 2004, we had requested a Savannah-view and that was it. The CM told me they didn't have that with 2 double beds, but they did have it with a queen and bunk beds. That was REALLY what we had wanted, but I had only listed the savannah-view in hopes that would be what we got. It worked out great!

Yes - If I make a room request prior to arrival I definitely mention it; I just say something like "just wanted to verify that you got my room request". I've never had a problem.

You just have to remember it is only a request. They do the best they can with what's available.

I usually say, "I requested a non-smoking room in such and such an area. Are you able to accomodate that?"

This year I had requested MK view in the CR Tower. We checked in right after checking out of SOG and the CM stated there was a room ready right now. I asked if it was MK view and she said no it was Bay view. (which I wouldn't have minded) I asked if there would be a MK view available and she said there would but we'd have to wait until after three. I said no problem and we checked in and were given the little card to call after three to get our room number. We then caught the monorail to Epcot and returned later in the evening. So apparantly sometimes they will try to get you a room that is available right that moment regardless of your requests. If you really want a certain location etc and are willing to wait it's a good idea to state that.

What works best for me is to write the room request on a small folded piece of paper. Very inconspicuously, slide it toward the CM while he/she is busy with your reservation.
Most of the time they will just read the paper, and thinking that is an official part of the transaction, they will honor your request. Sneaky, but it works.

I was under the impression that they allocate rooms ahead of time, so requests will have been considered, if possible, when they assign rooms a day or two before. I am begining to wonder now, though, if perhaps they just give you the first room available in your price catergory. If you aren't happy with the room they have given you at check-in, in my experience, they will see if they can switch, but you might have to wait a little longer for the room.

At the WL I had been really good at making sure that my couple or requests where in the system ahead of time, but when we got there they had put us in a room with bunk-beds, which are usually hard to get for other families. My DS4 is just too much of a live-wire for bunkbeds to be safe, so I asked for us to be moved. We waited about an hour, and we were moved to a room that had most of my original requests honored, so I felt that I hadn't done too badly. I try to keep my requests simple, no more than two if possible, I want to be flexible so I wont be disappointed.
