can you go straight ot your room with your luggage or do they deliver it for you at a later time? My kids will probably want to swim when we get there, so I'm wondering if I can pack everything together, or if I should take a carry on with us. Thanks!

Cabins do not usually open until 1 or 1:30, so anything you want before then you would have to carry with you.

Checked luggage is delivered at any time after the cabins are open up to and after dinner.

Wear your swimsuits under your clothes, carry a carryon.

Rooms aren't available until afternoon (after 130ish I think?) and luggage is delivered through out the afternoon/ early evening at times. Anything you need the first few hours, carry on with you.

So if you need different clothes for dinner, carry them on?

They typically understand that people might not have gotten their luggage yet, so they don't hold people to dress suggestion (other than no swimwear and that they require shoes) on the first night. Given that there's not really a dress code anymore (again, save the no swimwear and wear shoes), it doesn't really matter.

But yes. If you want something specific - or are dining in Palo or Remy on night one - better to put that in your carry-on and keep it with you than run the small chance that they don't get your luggage to you in time.

(FWIW, I think the primary reason luggage is delayed is if there is something questionable and you have to go and claim it.)

No reason for different clothes for dinner (well, unless you're doing Remy or Palo the first night). Every night is cruise casual. That is to say - the only thing not allowed is swimwear and tank tops.

I didn't realize that they go through your luggage. Can I take wrapped presents in my suitcase?

They don't "go through" your bags. But they do x-ray them to confirm there's no prohibited items in there. As long as there's nothing in the wrapped presents that's forbidden, you're fine.

If the x-rays turn up something questionable, they do have the right to go through the luggage just as they do on an airplane. And I think if there is anything questionable you might get a call to come and claim your luggage - after the contraband is removed.

Don't forget to pack any medications and documents /ID you might need in a carry bag too.

I always pack a carryon bag with swimsuits (we have never used it, but we carry one anyway) sunscreen, flip flops. Medications and jewelry go in my carryon/purse with wallet, passports, ID etc and finally my camera and extra SD card and battery charger. :)
Luggage starts being delivered at about 1:30 when the cabins are opened up. On a couple of cruises, we had just walked into the cabin and the bags started showing up within 15 minutes. Other cruises, they would show up at about 2 :15 or so. I have been lucky that our luggage has never arrived any later than 2:30. Vacation for me doesn't start until I unpack and settle in. :)

Yes.

FL is often hot and sweaty, so we always bring clothes for that first night. (actually I bring all my dinner clothes in carryon with me along with my dinnertime shoes, and swimsuits and coverup) No interest in going to dinner in the same clothes we've been wearing since that morning. Bleah.
