When checking in do you ask to see what's available first?

We always make our requests when we make the reservation, then just take what is assigned to us. No one has ever given us a choice of available rooms. Do you ask to see what is available? If so, at what point during check in would you do this? TIA

If the room isn't ready, I ask where it's at in general. One time I requested top floor and they said the assigned room was first floor. I asked her to check if anything higher was available and she did find a top floor. It wasn't ready either but turned out great.

One time at OKW they assigned us building 15, which I wasn't crazy about on the map, so I asked her to check what else was available and she found a perfect view in building 37.

Absolutely... as soon as they say "we have this available"... If it is not what we hoped for, we ask "what is", and maybe wait until it is... or not.

We've never "seen" the choices, but the last time our checking in CM asked if we liked our location the last time we were there. This was at BWV. We said "oh yes." Well, we were close to that location again and very happy.

When we checked in at OKW last July, we were shown on the map which rooms were available immediately. We had a choice of 3 rooms and this was around 9am. The CM was really nice and the room she recommended based on our needs was perfect. I hadn't made any requests other than non-smoking because I wasn't sure if my mom was coming with us. She did and we needed 1st floor and close to bus stop. Which we got.
