When can I do a points transfer?

I will be either renting or transferring my October 2012 points (to a friend - not requesting offers in any way here!).

I know I can make a reservation and rent from 11 months ahead of any check in date, but when can I perform a transfer? As I can borrow them from this October, can I also transfer them from then? Or will I have to wait until 11 months (ie 1st nov) or right until Oct 2012?

At this time you are in your 2010 Use Year and can transfer points from 2010 (into another member's 2010 Use Year) and from your 2011 Use Year (into another member's 2011 UY). You can transfer from the current and next Use Years.
You'll need to wait until after October 1 to transfer points from the 2012 UY.

Don't borrow those points and try to transfer them. You can't transfer borrowed or banked points. Only current year points.

So, like Doc says, you can transfer current year 2010 points or current year 2011 points. Your 2010 into their 2010 and your 2011 into their 2011.

Actually, MS will transfer 2012 UY points while still in 2010 UY. I just did it last week and I am in my June 2010 UY. They allowed another member to give me 2012 June UY points.

They even show up on the member website for me since they are the same UY and home resort that I own. This was something new we learned as we also thought we had to wait until June 1st, when we entered our 2011 UY, to complete it.

Either that, or it goes to show that the rules are not solid and that different things happen re: transfers.

It does beg the question if it is allowed or if it was a mistake but somehow allowed anyway. Either way, it obviously can happen, regardless.
