When booking under a promotion...

When you make a reservation under a promotion, is it ok to book for 8-9 days that you know will get shaved down a day or two when travel plans become more firm? I know it's harder to add days under a promotion, but is there any penalty for doing this?

my understanding if you change your dates, the package you book under the promotion has to be available for the new dates in your trip. So if you originally book 11/3-11/11 and you later change your dates to 11/5-11/11 those new dates have to be available as if you were booking for the first time. Gone are the days that you can take away or even add a day or two.

Ah, I thought I had seen people discussing that. Darn. Thanks.

It has risks. Your resort/room category/promotion would need to be available for your new, shorter dates. Sometimes Disney’s booking algorithms might work against you under such a scenario, sometimes you might be OK. I generally put the ability to both add or drop days in the “maybe” bucket.

Sadly as mentioned the rules changed, in Disney’s favour :sad2: So it best to know your dates before booking.

One suggestion that might help is to split your stay into your "core" days that you are certain to be part of your stay, and then a pre-core or post-core stay block. That would give you some flexibility with dates without the highest risk of breaking your entire stay.

Well, I was thinking of doing just 7 days, but looking at flights it seems like it would be cheaper to fly and stay 9 days. So I guess I'll just be forced to stay longer than originally planned (darn!). Thanks, everyone.

staying longer = forced? no such thing. I usually have to be dragged away after 9 days. LOL.
