I appreciate any ideas of things to do while waiting to get settled in at our new home. This starts with packing right to begin with since we won't have access to our luggage.
We will be staying at the BCV in Sept.& VWL in Nov. (with 2+5 yr old in tow).
What have you guys packed in your carry on that was a lifesaver when you were at the resort waiting. Any tidbits on things that you have done on the first day would be appreciated.
Thanks, you guys are great and we always enjoy the responses.
Chris

We just pack of fanny packs for the day with our APs and trading pins, pick up our KTTW at the front desk, and take the resort bus/boat to the parks while we wait. :thumbsup2

We always pack bathing suits in the carry-on so we can hit the pool while we wait for your room. We tend to arrive early in the day. I also pack a pair of shorts and a tank top... since I am not flying in that attire.

Ditto... Get your room key and your'e good to go. No reason to just sit around waiting. Make use of that time... have fun.

We usually checkin early, like 8:30-9:00, get our room keys, and then head to a park. We'll call back later on in the afternoon to see if/when the room is ready. This year will be a little different in that it is the first time we've spent that Saturday night in a DVC unit and not Pop Century. But we will still have to move on Sunday morning as our ressie for Saturday night is in a studio at OKW and then on Sunday we move into a 1BR. We've finally got enough points so that I don't mind staying that Saturday night in a DVC unit.

We also pick up our keys (for the dining plan) and head straight for the park. We use Disney's Magical Express, so our bags are in the room when we get back that night.

Both of our trips we have arrived about 1:30 ish and our rooms have been ready. Sunday before Thanksgiving at SSR, and last Saturday at VWL.

You don't have to be there for then to deliver your luggage?

No, that's what's great about Magical Express. They deliver the luggage to the resort and then resort CM's deliver to your room. My Sister and I did it last year and it was great:thumbsup2

For a BCV checkin day we pack bathing suits and spend some time at SAB after we go through the registration process. We have also done the check in, lunch and then theme park if room still not available. Having a change of clothes and sunscreen have been our priorities when traveling with small children as well as bathing suits.

We went to DDT and met friends for lunch and then did a little shopping to kill time. I like the idea of having your bathing suits handy to use the pool I know @ SSr you can use the locker rooms for the spa to change and get cleaned up after.

Nope... it will be in your room when you get back!

Yeah right... that would go over well! Flip flops and a towel it tow too! (PJeff here)

We always rent a car, so we check-in...get our KTTW cards and the call back number before we head to the parks. Around 4PM we start calling the call back number. As soon as our room is available and the number is given, we head out to the grocery store and get settled back in our unit as soon as we get back with groceries.

I agree.

What do you do with your carry on bag if you go to the park?, I will have a fairly big carry on, i dont want to lug it around all afternoon.

You can check it with bell services. I would however, take any valuables with me rather than leave them in the bag.

As others have said, we usually just hang by the pool, and get a "adult beverage" and let the kids swim! After a long 8 hr trip, its nice to "unwine"..

deerh:)
