I'm visiting in May 2025, had it all booked for around 4 months now.
We will be at Disney between the 18th and 29th of May.

I know with Epic opening no one is going to know how busy it is, I'm wondering when do most Schools let out?
I'm planning quite a few resort days so would like to tie them in with the busiest days so we aren't in the parks those days and leave them for the pool and disney springs.
We are at Boardwalk from 18th - 25th and then Grand Floridian 25th - 29th

We are going to try if I can get tickets to sneak over to Epic after it opens for a day. My Universal dates are May 3rd - 16th so we just miss it while we are on property there.

Southern schools let out anytime in May. It depends on location in the south. California schools (at least southern Cal let out the begining of June. The North east is late June with NY being the last I believe, which goes until the very end.

It tends to depend on the area, but the vast majority of schools let out in May usually more toward the end of the month. Memorial Day is a US holiday and probably there would be more people at Disney due to that instead. We were there in early May a few years ago and didn't really notice any large increase in the number of people at the parks. Disney tends to be crowded no matter what time of year and draws people from all over the world. I doubt that most parents are going to take their kids out of school and run off to Disney the last couple of weeks of the school year.

I live in the Southeast. Schools are out May 16th/18th. Around there. Earlier for graduating seniors (10th-13th). We went to WDW this past May 2024. Arrived the 19th. It was pretty busy/crowded. When we left (7 days later) the Memorial Day visitors were coming. Getting a lot more crowded.

In the SE here, TN, and last day is May 22. DS will graduate that night! woohoo.
We've made many, many trips at end/May and Memorial Day weekend. We'd often start the drive down as soon as the kids got off the bus. Any time/days you can get in before Memorial Day weekend will be better. Crowds do pick up on that weekend, and afterward. But we've always found them manageable, more so than other holiday times that we go. But it is fairly hot weather.

Schools in the US let out for summer over a 6 week period. The earliest start getting out mid-May while the latest are in school until the end of June.

Something else to consider is that while schools letting out may alter attendance a bit, it’s more holiday weekends that will bump up attendance. Guests visits Disney all year, many taking children out of school to do so.

Southern states up into some parts of PA are anytime in May ( usually late may/early june in PA). I'm in northern New England now and the SD I work for lets out first week of June.

It varies widely with some schools being on summer break mid May and others not until late June.
Remember Memorial Day weekend is in that time frame as weel so even if not everyone is out for summer a lot will be on the unofficial start to summer school break from potentially that Thursday-Monday. (May 21-25)

The idea of looking at school schedules as some way to judge crowds is really no longer a thing. Disney is always busy.

Summer is no longer the peak season at Disney, but it is still busy.

That said, May is a good time to visit avoiding holidays because it is past the cooler Easter / snowbird / spring break season and you may catch a break from the full-on heat and thunderstorms of summer.

Avoiding holidays is always a good strategy. Ticket prices will reflect the better times to visit because they will be less expensive.

In the end, having a good strategy of how you tour the parks is going to give you the best experience over trying to pick some "magicial" low-crowd time.

I'd do your resort days over the memorial day weekend. The days before Memorial day should be lowest crowds, with the most busy time being the long weekend.

Thanks everyone. I'll make our "non park days" over the memorial day weekend, that sounds like a plan.

I work as a teacher in NYC and NYC schools don't end until late June. I know Southern schools end much earlier than up in NY lol

I live near Orlando and all of the districts around here usually finish a day before or after Memorial Day weekend. When I lived in PA, the district finished mid-June. When I lived in NJ, the district finished the last week in June.
