When and where did you first discover the podcast?

I am a big podcast fan. In fact, I did not discover these boards until I started listening to the podcast a year ago. So I was just curious, when and where did you discover the podcast? Was it here on the Dis, or somewhere obscure? I am an avid knitter and I like to listen to podcasts while I knit. I discovered the Disunplugged podcast on a knitting community board, "Ravelry" about a year ago. I have since become hooked, and have just been trying to post on these boards when I have something to say, (I am a HUGE WDW fan, but sadly can't get down there as much as I would like.)

BTW, this is the first time I have ever started a thread on any board EVER!

Welcome StitchMistress! :goodvibes

I have been a regular on the DIS since was googling for information for our first Disney cruise in 1999. My join date says later because there was an infamous board crash where I lost my original information and had to start again. . .

Anyway, so I kept reading about this podcast thing and really wanted to get an ipod to try it out (I couldn't listen to it at work since I teach and don't really have time at home). Finally, I got an mp3 player a couple of years ago and have been hooked ever since!

I actually was one of the first - if not the first - to post on this board when they made it. I remember coming here all excited but nobody posted for a little bit. Then I didn't come back for a while and then when I did it was crazy popular over here. :)

So that's my story - and as the podcast team said on their anniversary show in 07 after they told their story about coming to work for the DIS- that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :rotfl:

Welcome again and hope to see more of you!
Angie

I discovered the boards and the podcast at the same time last year when i was researching and planning for our trip to WDW last fall. I am hooked ever since i started listening. I feel like they are part of my family.

I got an ipod as a birthday present a year and a half ago.

I searched for the podcasts for subjects that interested me. One was travel. Lou Mongello's was the first podcast I found. Later I found and have continued listening to other Disney podcasts - WDW Today, All about the Mouse, Netcot, Inside the Magic, and DisUnplugged. I have listened to other Disney podcasts, but these are the ones I stick with.

I didn't actively start with Disboards til many months after I started listening to the Dis podcasts.

I also listen to podcasts with other subject matter.

I have never downloaded music on my ipod.

Probably the most cliched way possible. It involved a lonely crab cake.

To explain. Two of my obsessions online are all things Disney and restaurant reviews of all kinds.

So of course it was only a matter of time before I stumbled upon KK's original review of the Coral Reef.

The line about the manager asking if Kevin got that crab cake here, and his being tempted to reply, "Why no, I brought it into the park with me today and this looked like a lovely place to enjoy it" had me howling with laughter for most of the morning.

A quick Google brought me to The Dis, then eventually the podcast, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The addiction has set in, BIG TIME> :thumbsup2

I found the boards first - and one day decided to try the podcast. And I was hooked! (I have a friend that just came back from WDW - she booked through Dreams Unlimited Travel - but had no idea there was a podcast or the DIS boards. - I felt so in-the-know!)

BTW - I have a knitting friend that tells me about Ravelry all the time!

I am enjoying all of your stories. I too, never listen to music on my ipod! My podcast queue on itunes is forever growing, but I think the Disunplugged is my favorite.

Thanks for the welcome! I am going to try and post more. The board is luring me more every day.

The first Dis Unplugged podcast I'd listened to was the one where Pete read the letter from the guy complaining about Pete's criticism of the Orlando Magic's proposed arena. It was a doozy of a rant and really kind of caught me off guard. What I appreciated though was Pete's honesty and willingness to share his opinion, thorns and all. I liked that he said he didn't want anyone who was homophobic to listen to the show. It was obvious he was a local in Orlando and was concerned about his community. Rather than finding the rant off putting, I was more drawn in by the frankness and the engaging tone of the podcast. The detailed and very real discussions I've continued to listen to have entertained me and enlightened me for months now. Thanks for the rant, Pete!

I have been on the boards for quite some time and one day I logged on there was a very touching musical slide show. After some confusion and investigation, I found out just what this slide show was all about.
The slide show was a memorial for Bob "Bawb" Varley, who was a podcast team member. Well this peaked my interest and I started listening to the show. I started where anyone should and that would be at the beginning.
After many, many , MANY hours I had finally caught up to the current show and began to realize just how special Bob was and wept when I got to his memorial show and Best of Bob show.

I am now an official (if there is such a thing) Dis unplugged podcast addict. I eagerly await each Wed. for the newest show to be posted.

That, my friend is how I first discovered the podcast!

much like my love for WDW, my wife turned me on to disney podcasts. it did start with lou's, but after reading the "other people who like this podcast also listen to......" on iTunes, i started listening to the DIS, WDW Today, Be our Guest Podcast, and ITM. I listened to the podcast for a few months before registering on the boards and being a poster here. i also shied away from the podcast board for a long time because i wasn't sure "i belonged". i am glad i stayed with it b/c now this and the restaurant boards are the two places i post the most!

I don't remember how I found the podcast originally but I've been listening since it started (even the pre-roundtable episodes). I have 50 minute commute to work and I'm always searching for new content.

I had been on the boards for years than last January I was bored and clicked listen now and have been addicted ever since. Shortly after that I witnessed the great Rex stalking of Pete. Then I just jumped right in here on this board. Best board on the DIS.

i actually dont remember what i found first, the boards or the podcast.

I found the podcast before it was roundtable. I think it was still in the single digits! :lmao: I used to listen to the crew to put me asleep at night when i lived in the dorms on campus. They helped me through some lonely nights.:rotfl: or kept me awake.

I probably lurked on the boards for a while before posting but i cant for the life of me remember what i found first!

I was a big fan of the site and boards before I took the leap into the podcast. But whenever I was on the boards I just skipped over this board, and I kind of ignored the podcast section on the homepage. I'm not sure what it was that got me to actually listen to a show, but I'm sure glad I did.:thumbsup2

Last winter 2008... I started getting into podcasts. I was listening to a lot of National Public Radio podcast shows then it dawned on me... there has to be a disney podcast out there. I found the disunplugged and I was instantly hooked.
Suddenly I realized I am not a freak... there are people who love the parks, food, and the magic. I am so happy to be a small part of this fabulous community. :goodvibes

I was planning a solo(-ish) trip to WDW for December 2007. It was my first trip, and while I wass meeting a family friend who often toured the parks, I wanted to be as ready as possible on my own.

I signed up for the allears.net newsletter, and DIS Unplugged was listed in an article about Disney podcasts. I actually intended to go down the list and listen to all of them. I was lucky to find this and WDW Radio. Even though I'm not going back until at least 2010, this podcast has just become a part of me, in a way, and keeps me connected to a place far away I fell in love with.

My girlfriend first found it when searching for disney stuff on Itunes and then started playing the podcasts on her laptop most nights when we went to bed.

At first I wound her up calling her a geek for listening to podcasts but after about a week I was also addicted and downloading them myself!!!.

Now here I am also posting on the dis boards - Guess its her turn to call me the geek lol :)

Absolutely loving the info you can get and the banter amongst people on here. Some very helpful and friendly people posting and now to me the boards complement the podcast nicely!

The year was late 2007 when I started Listening to the Podcast . Since then I became hooked to the show. It made me laughed. I love hearing the info on everything Disney. I was sad when Bob passed away last year I cried. I was at work when I started listening to the Podcast. Now I am loving every episode. You guys are great .:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
