This will be our third trip. I am an advance planner so when she discovers we are going to DL 29 days from today she will be amazed. Can't decide when/how to tell her. If I tell her too soon, she will bounce off the walls for weeks, but I do want to her to have some time to anticipate the trip, because that is part of the fun. Any ideas on when and how?

Maybe a week or so before you leave have a family movie night and put in her favorite disney movie. As your watching say something like "In ___ many days your going to be able to see ____ again." Fill in the blanks.

Also you can have her favorite character send her a postcard saying "I cant wait to see you when you visit on ___." DIS's are always happy to play fairygod mailer.

I really like the idea of a post card to your child from a character, but it could be really fun to not tell her until the day you leave. Of the night before you leave, you can always have a fun dinnerl and make mickey pancakes or something like that and then at dessert give her her park ticket or a disney shirt with her fav character on it to wear at the park.

Theres always that phone number where you can get a character to call someoen you love and have them send a message

When my kids we're little they used to make a paper chain, with each strip representing a day. As the days went by they took a strip off the chain. The chain was attached to piece of paper with a bunch of Disney pictures they cut and pasted on to it.

Now my niece thinks she needs one for each of our trips.

I like the idea of a postcard from a character. I'm also looking for ideas of when to tell DD that we are leaving the day before Christmas Eve for DL :yay: I have ordered personalized t-shirts from disney and the Tink luggage for her, I'm planning on using those items but still not sure how to tell her. But I still have a few months to think of something :confused3

But I think having a special dinner or something and giving her a DL related present would be fun!

I asked my DD (8) if she wanted it to be a surprise, she said yes. So I'll pack her bags....and when the shuttle picks us up....SURPRISE!! :thumbsup2 When I was 13 (sis was 4) I had just got off the bus for school when my stepdad told us we were going ... it was so fun when it happened that way!

I do believe it's the anticipation also, so when we bring DS when he hits 4 (2 yo now), we'll do that. When DD went at 4 we watched a Disney movie every Friday night, played Disney Trivial Pursuit & listened to the songs nonstop ... we do that now actually.....

Either way I think it would be fun. But if you want to tell her before, I'd say 1 week b/c she won't have sleepless, anxious night before you leave - she'll have some time to settle down & absorb it all. ;)

We leave in 16 days for our first trip to DLR. We are not going to tell our three DDs. We are going to be dropped off at the airport. They will probably think we are headed to WDW. We think (& hope) they will be surprised. :wizard:

We are leaving in 54 days, and our 2 kids (11 & 6) have no idea we were in DL last Nov. What makes it even more exciting my brother and his family will be meeting us at LAX to join in the holiday. My husband came up with the plan; on the day we are leaving the kids will be told we have to drive dad to the airport so he can fly back to work (works out of town), hence the suitcases in the back of the vehicle. I have downloaded some disney music so we will listen to that on the way to the airport and reminice about our last trip to DL, when we get to the airport we will unload dad's luggage (ha ha) and then my darling husband will say "Why don't we skip work and school and go to Disneyland!?" The kids will scream because they won't realize that their wonderful mother has packed their clothes for our trip. Then when we land at LAX standing at outside the terminal will be a limo with our name on it as well wonderful Uncle and his family will be there as well! Oh my gosh I am sure everyone will hear the screams of excitement. The only issue I am having with the entire plan is keeping my excitement contained on a daily basis! Which is why I hang out on the disboard site daily!

:rotfl: I guess we'll be seeing A LOT of you on the disboards then!

Oh my gosh, that would be torture! But, it sounds AWESOME! :thumbsup2 Great idea for sure!

You could give her a letter every day that will eventually all spell out "We're going to Disneyland" -- maybe let her discover the letters in a different place each day!

We leave on Sunday and we told our DD4 last weekend. We set up a scavenger hunt around the house with small Disney presents for her to find. Each time she found one of her presents, there was another clue (a short rhyme) leading to the next one. The final present was an autograph book I made for her. I think she was more excited about the scavenger hunt than when she found out where we were going! :rotfl:

great ideas, my only problem is keeping all this excitment to myself for 28 more days.......on my only 28
