If a thread is locked I make guesses as to who was involved. I’m usually right....

When a thread is at 4 or 5 pages before I've had a chance to read it, I pretty much feel like the boat has sailed. I almost never post on a thread when it's that far developed. And there are some threads you just know are going to to end up getting locked (like anything to do with guns or racism) that really feel like "not my circus..." and I never post or even follow along with those.
Not necessarily. Sometimes it’s locked for no reason that we can see. Sow t
Agree. Anything over 5 pages has been asked and answered. And has probably gone off the rails.
Don't moderators know how people got banned?I feel guilty as heck when I make a comment in a thread and it gets a lock down.
My weird habit is wondering what someone did, when I see their username crossed off and they were the starter of the thread. I always click on the thread and try to figure out how the person got banned.
I think mods (at least certain ones) either:I always wonder who reported whom and alerted the moderators to the thread.
Kind of like the tattler at school who tells the teacher and stops the fun.
These days you can predict locked status coming simply in the title. Funny in 14 years here I have never ignored anyone. This week put 3 on the list. One even from my hometown. Now I know who to ignore IRL, kind of nice
Edited to add: what was the butter/ bread title?? Was that one locked?
This is a private board, we belong and post at the whim of the Moderators and within the owners rules. This is not a Democracy, nor is any board.
Now as far as 5 pages, I've sat through way too many "How to Moderate" classes at work. You WANT lots of responses. That's the sign of a successful thread, not a sign of going off the rails.
I consider it a personal victory when a post I've reported gets deleted.![]()
I've seen that more when the mods are just trying to get ahead of the game. Most often on the threads I've personally visited (though not necessarily commented on) the question got answered but something else got brought up or the intention behind the OP of the thread is brought into question and the mods are just trying to prevent a back and forth thing. More often than not it's the same several mods that are doing that IME.Not all locked threads are that interesting. Sometimes they lock them after a couple of posts because the question has been answered.
