When a thread is locked...

If a thread is locked I make guesses as to who was involved. I’m usually right....

I agree with that. There are some people who feel obligated to interject their political beliefs in any circumstance. It is as if they are fighting a battle to win the internet, can't possibly allow the "other side" to have the imaginary advantage and therefore feel compelled to tell them that they are wrong. Getting angry about someone else's opinion seems irrational to me.

There are some binary thinkers out there who have created definitive sides and are too rigid to accept or allow meaningful conversation. The threads about race come to mind as I cannot imagine any meaningful conversation happening when the default position is to label someone a racist at the first sign of disagreement. There is no room for nuance. Just call someone a racist, pat yourself on the back for being a better person, claim victory, and rest easy that night with the self-satisfaction that you have outed your racist for the day.

Most of the moderators in forums I've encountered will at least tell the OP why their thread is locked.

Boy, I wish they did that here! I remember starting a thread here a couple years ago, and that thread eventually got locked. I never knew why, so I didn't post on these boards for months, not knowing whether I'd done something wrong.

Is this something people do often? I think I've only reported one post.

Only time I've had an issue with a moderator and "points" was my very first post. Asked a genuine (if naive) question & a few people thought I was looking for a handout or something. Guy started attacking, mocking, and relentlessly making accusations regarding my character. Used a term for his behavior that I've since seen on other threads (t_ _ _l) but at the time it was termed a "personal attack". Very quickly learned that this forum is very different than any others I've used. Several posts were deleted.
Sounds about normal for this board. People will bully you without breaking the rules. They’re good at it. Causing you to snap and say something that goes against forum rules. I fell into that trap once. I’m very careful not to do it again.

Oh no! Yeah, if be all nervous about that, too. I always want to know if/where I did wrong just because I don't wanna do it again lol! And, ofc if I unintentionally upset someone, I'd want to apologize/try and make it right. Did you try messaging a mod regarding it? I'm very new to this site so I'm not really sure how "personal" the mods/admins are on here. The previous forums I've been a part of had very friendly mods

There appears to be a battle of the banned trolls lately. Each one calling out the other. Bizarre.

Its also weird that we know the previous name of a troll here, we all call him his old name, he doesn't deny it, and its all cool.

I think for the most part people on these boards are very friendly and helpful especially if you get away from the community board. If you’re planning a trip to WDW or a dcl cruise or even non dcl cruise there is no better place to get information.
Some people get a little defensive about Disney especially on the cruise line board. Saying something negative about DCL will bring out a few of the attack dogs. As prices continue to climb though negative comments and cruiseline comparisons are more welcome and accepted.

I must be having a brain freeze....trying to figure out what word (t___l) could be:rotfl:

I assume troll. I'm not sure why the PP wrote it that way - not a personal attack if not being applied to someone and, if it were a problem to use the word, you'd still be in trouble if using *'s or _'s or whatever.
Yup. I got points once for "filtering" my own word (I think I put the first and last letter and * for the rest). I questioned the mod and they said it was better to type the word and let the built in filters take care of it.

Yes. Once I filled in the astrick’s for a dirty word and got in trouble. I was just so worried that it wouldn’t be filtered and then I would get points.

Some of my first points came from filtering my own word. Then I got points because a word wasn’t filtered and I assumed that since it wasn’t, it was ok. Nope. The rational for that was that the filter is set to catch words, but not the context of a word.

I got points because I used the word ball in a non dis friendly way. The word wasn’t starred so I thought it was cool.

The first time I got points was because of that. Ten years later I went ahead and typed the word, it didn’t get filtered but I got points for ‘replacing a word for the “real” word.’ Which I didn’t, that’s the word I typically use and didn’t really think much about it. The filter didn’t star it out, *I* didn’t star it out so I thought is was all good. :confused3

I read locked threads with interest. I follow threads I KNOW will be locked. I rarely participate in ones that are destined to go off the rails or leave them before they do. I don’t put people on ‘ignore’ just scroll past and I don’t report people. I figure they’ll eventually make their own bed. I only report spam or if I think something is dangerous. (Not happened here but it’s a real thing in other forums)

It wasn't an expletive or a personal attack when it happened and that didn't matter. Just being safe.

You might want to edit and replace with the real word or just remove it. You can get points for “circumventing the word filter.”

True, but troll wouldn’t be filtered anyway.

Yeah, but as you and I both know if it’s perceived to be the intention you can get in trouble anyway. I never use stars or spaces anymore, I just let the chips fall where they may. Every ten years or so it gets me in trouble though. :lmao:
