Can you rent manual wheelchairs at the disney resorts? Do they allow you to bring it on disney bus collapsed if it is not used? Thanks.

yes. On site they are $10 a day unless you purchase a length of stay pass in which case it works out to $8/day.

HOWEVER. they may NOT be taken outside of the park you rent them in.

In fact you do need to get an interim one to get to the PL, Bus stops or monorail.

RESORT WC are reserved for those who get hurt or injured after arriving. they are NOT meant to be used by those those who know they will need one up front. each resort might only have a couple of chairs and they are FCFS.

you can rent off site for about the same price as the Parks and they will deliver to the resort and you can take them any where.

Any recommendations for an offsite durable medical equipment company that rents wheelchairs?

Any issues when bring a folded wheelchair onboard disney buses? Thanks.

If you look at the disABILITIES FAQs thread, you will find what you are looking for in post #2 of that thread.
There is a link in my signature to get to that thread.

We stayed at the Polynesian Resort in September and I asked about a wheelchair at the front desk and they loaned one to me for the entire time. Then in October my Mom went with my brothers family and stayed at Caribbean beach and they also gave them the wheelchair for the week. They didn't tell us it was for people that were just injured, I told them my Mom had a stroke and couldn't walk long distances.

but you cannot guarantee that one will be available to you at the resort. so it's best to rent offsite if it is absolutely necessary to have one at all times.

right now, I can get by with just renting one in the parks and walking to/from the entrances and around the resort. in September when we go that may change again and at that point I may have to adjust accordingly.

Be aware that the wheelchairs from the resorts may not be in the best shape. We used a chair from OKW last December, since we flew and didn't drive down, and didn't want to hassle with our own chair on the flight while changing planes.

It rolled OK, but it was rusty and worn. I've never been told by a CM or on the contract that a resort chair can't be used in the parks. As others have said, there is limited availability. It doesn't hurt to ask at check-in of one is available, and if not you can call an offsite company to have one delivered the next day.

As far as the busses, a collapsed chair can be loaded, but be sure you have a secure grip upon it, wheelchairs are heavier than most strollers, and I wouldn't want to be whacked by a flying chair if the bus makes a sharp turn.
