We are going home for the first time to SSR . My Mum took a stroke last year and I don't think she will last the pace when we go in July, Can you hire wheelchairs at the resort for say the fortnight

thanks

You can rent from a company but all WDW resorts have wheelchairs to borrow for a deposit at NO cost. They are first come, first served, but many times they'll find you one at another resort if they are out. Most have locks but not all and they do have Plus sizes as well.

Thanks Dean

what do you mean by locks ? and also do you know if they have one they allow you to keep it for the duration of your stay or have you to hand it back daily and go back in the morning.

They will likely have some with a chain and lock to prevent it being stolen. Since you will leave a deposit around $325, you might not want to take a chance on it. By knowing, you might ask for one if it's important to you.

You really do need to lock up the chair when you aren't using it. We had ours "borrowed" last year in MGM while we were at lunch. It showed up at the end of the day but we were very upset about it. MGM was very nice and gave us a chair to use for the rest of the day there but it ruined our day thinking about the 350 we might have lost. I have learned my lesson, ALWAYS LOCK THE CHAIR if you aren't in it.

You can keep the loaners for the duration of your stay.

In our experience it is a thin cable with a key lock rather than a chain. Easy to use.

But your mother might feel more independent with a rental scooter if she could handle those. If you do that, be sure to rent off property as they are much more reasonable.

thanks everyone, never gave it a thought about it disappearing . thank goodness my son will be in his chair all the time at £2,000 a chair I would hate for it to disappear.

will see what she thinks and how she feels.

imagine someone borrowing your chair Merlyn, and how did they think you would manage without it !! some people just don't think do they

be sure to get a first floor at SSR if you can.

otherwise it can be long walk to the elevators.

how are you managing two wheelchairs?

oh I guess we have been just lucky - our resort wheelchair has never been borrow... guess I need to be using those locks next time.

thanks for the warning.
