We will be checking into Boardwalk Villas next Sunday and I just sprained my ankle. I know I can rent wheelchairs in the park, but I would like to rent one I can use outside the parks - not a motorized one, just one that my grown kids can push me around in. :) I found a place online called Walker Mobility that seems reasonable. Has anyone used them?

I suggest you get a motorized chair. It is not fair to your kids to have to push you around. I know first hand.

Our first day their, my wife sprained her ankle. I said no big deal, we will just rent a chair.

We didn't get a motorized one because it was not in the budget. Everyday for the remaining 6 days, I pushed her around the parks. At the end of each day, I was exhausted.

I did not enjoy myself so much so that I had refused to go back for so long. I was last there 8 years ago. I am finally going back this year provided my wife wears ankle support because she regularly twists her ankle.

Totally agree with PP rent an ECV. A few years ago got a wheelchair for DW and once was enough. You get tired very fast pushing a chair around all the time. The heat will exhaust the 1 who's pushing it very fast. The who's in the chair is limited by the ability of the one pushing it and the 1 pushing can't go off where they want to. With an ECV the driver has the freedom of going where he wants to when he does.
1 more point is if you're flying call the airline asap and have them arrange transportation for you, they'll provide a tramsporter witha wheelchair for you to get around airport.

I'll be using Walker also for an upcoming trip with mother in law. Totally agree about getting a scooter. We just returned from a warm week and I felt bad for the people pushing wheelchairs. They were sweating bullets. There are quite a few subtle inclines in the parks. I am also going to spring for the optional canopy...there is never shade around when you need it. Mother in law first balked at the idea but she was outscored. The reasonable price is well worth it.

If you just want a regular wheelchair they will gladly give you one at the BWV front desk at no cost. You will be able to use it throughout your stay, both in and out of the parks.

Don't count on the resort having one available. And they frown upon you taking off the resort. Rent one

This is incorrect. We have always been told that we should feel free to take it wherever we were going. After all, how could someone who needs one get to the parks without it.

Agreed. We gotten them from the front desk many times and never once did the CM say that we couldn't use them away from the resort.

We were very politely told the chair was for use at the resort, and if you need one at the park, feel free to rent one at the park entrance. AND that they only had two at the resort, mostly used for emergency injuries, not for someone who knows they need a wheelchair for their vacation.

I was granted one at Bell Services at Animal Kingdom Lodge for my DH and told I could use it anywhere I needed. Again, info varies by CM. By the way, the wheel chair had the MK logo on the back. I did not find pushing the wheel chair to be a burden -- trip was in March. I think scooters are more dangerous if you are not used to driving them.
