wheelchair for autistic 10 yr. old?

I think it's a great idea. My DS had a friend in class once who was in a chair and he was fasinated. So one night in Epcot we wheeled him around in it. Don't worry what other people say, they are the type of people who complain to me at the movie theatre about the price being so expensive, they just want to complain about something.

You might be able borrow a wheelchair from your resort as well. If you don't need it every where you go. Have a great time.

The resort wheelchairs are first come, first served, so if you are definitely going to want a wheelchair, your best bet would be to rent one from one of the offsite vendors listed in the FAQ stickies at the top of this board.

First, have a good time ! My DS, 17, ASD, doesn't use a wheelchair and will wait in line...but sometimes I get that "look" from others. That is all I get...I think they get the message that they'd better not say a word or I will attack...and not for my sake, for DS and othere ASD children. I won't cause a scene, because that would upset DS, but those that don't get it will jolly well get it and keep their mouths shut after dealing w/ me. I feel no need to be polite...if these losers can plan a trip to WDW they should be able to figure out there is a darn good reason why a seemingly able bodied adolescent is in a wheelchair or stroller.

OT...I read "George and Sam" last weekend...LOVED it...any of you w/ ASD children, diagnosed some time ago would enjoy this. For those of you dealing w/ a new diagnoses I would wait a bit...some things you need to give yourself some healing time.

We did get a wheelchair when we were there in October and it was a very, very, very good idea. It made life a lot easier for us and he was able to stay on track a lot easier. I highly recommend it. We didn't use it at DAK but we did everywhere else and it was great. We are going again in December and we will definitely rent one again. Christine
