Wheelchair Foldup on busses?

DW might be in a wheelchair in March due to an injury she is working on. As mentioned on another thread, she is HOPING to not need it, but I digress...

The injury is a question of not being able to walk for long periods of time, she is able to get up and transfer. Will she be allowed to just collapse her wheelchair and bring it on board, or will she have to go through the process of lowering the bus and placing her in a special section of the bus?

Yes you can fold the chair and hold it like strollers are held rather than having it strapped down. I wish I had known that before our one and only trip with a chair (due to an injury) because we weren't even offered this by a driver until over half way through our trip and I found it to be so much easier for everybody (us, drivers, other guests) to just do this when using a regular rental chair for somebody who can easily transfer.

Just confirming what was said above! I see a lot of people do this and then just hold the wheelchair.

You can also have the ramp lowered and then wheel onto the bus and transfer there if stairs are too hard for her.

Thank you for asking this question. I am leaving tomorrow and in the same situation with my mom. She is injured and we have rented a wheelchair but didn't know if she had to sit in it on the bus. She will need to use the lift to get on the bus (can't step up that high) so should we go in the main line or still use the wheelchair waiting area?

The new low floor buses. Don't have steps to enter just little step upso you can use the ramp to walk up or you can stY in your chair then transfer. The old buses you have to use the lift if you can't do stairs and stay in the chair then transfer to a seat.
