Wheelchair at HDDR?

I don't know if this should go here, or under dining, so I'll try here first. I have ADRs for our Sept trip to HDDR. My brother uses a wheelchair as he has several disabilities (epilepsy, low vision, poor sense of balance, can't walk long distances, pace maker). He can walk short distances, but he doesn't do stairs well, although he can do a few at a time when necessary. Anyway, when I made the ADR, I read somewhere that for a wheelchair, you had to choose catagory I seeting. However, catagory I is not on the DDP, which we have. I choose catagory II, hoping that maybe they have tables in the back on the main floor in this catagory. Now, I'm worried that when we get there, we will have to sit in the balcony and he will not be able to get to the seats. Has anyone used catagory II seeting with a wheelchair before? Is this something that can be done, or should I cancel the reservations? I don't want to do the 9:30 show, as dd and ds will be going to bed at this time, if not before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just call a few days before the show and let them know the situation, WDW has to offer accomidations at all price levels so if there are none available, they will just upgrade you.

Thank you. Do you think it would help if I call the dining reservations now? Do you think they could add a note to our reservation? I just don't want to get stuck with nowhere to sit, and nowhere else to go, either.

Most of the cat2 seating is on the main level, only 4(I think) tables in that category are upstairs. Make sure you note it on your ADR(now is fine) and then remind the CM when you check in. The ramp entrance for HDDR actually goes through Trails End, so don't panic when it is not immediately obvious how to get in without stairs.

Thank you - I feel much better now. He really wants to see the show but I can't afford to pay for the cat I seating along with paying for the DDP at the same time. I'm going to call dining reservations now. Thanks again!

We've always had the Cat 2 seating on the main floor and the seats were just fine. You should definitely note that there is a guest travelling in a w/c or with mobility concerns when you book the HDDR- this way a table will be blocked for you on the main floor. ---Kathy

Thanks everyone for the help. I knew this was the right place to come for answers!:goodvibes

my daughter 14 uses a chair and we do HDDR all the time?? we park her chair in the back and she uses her crutches. 2008 we did the 5:00 show as we always do, and we were front and center!!! 2006 we sat kind of in the back. we did not have the dining plan either time, but we do this time. they will have to seat you on the lower level.if not do as i do just make a big stink until you get your way :cool1:

I called the dining reservations yesterday, and asked them to add a note to our reservation that we have a wheelchair. The CM was very nice and she said they do have tables in catII on the main level, and she added it to our reservation. She also did the same with the Garden Grill, as that also has a couple of levels available.

My brother is also in a wheelchair. We went last year. Cat 1 was available on DDP if you booked the late show (9?) We also got their early, so that they could let him in before there were people everywhere. There is a special entrance for WC.

HTH!

We were looking at the 9:30 show, but figured it would be too late for our DS (3). From what I have been hearing, everything should work out ok. We are planning this for our last night. I figure after the show, we will go to the campfire for a little while, then back to the beach to watch Wishes and the boat parade. Thank you all so much for all of your advice and assistance. :goodvibes
