I'm travelling with Virgin, and have requested wheelchair assistance which I've done before. This time we have upgraded to PE, so which check-in do we use, PE or the special assistance one?

Also, we get to leave the aircraft first (well after UC) with PE, but in the past when using assistance in Economy I've had to wait until the aircraft was empty. So will I have to sit there like a complete lemon on my own in PE waiting for the entire plane to empty :rolleyes1

Have tried asking Virgin but they didn't seem to know, had 2 completely different answers from them. So anyone here had any experiance of what actually happens

Thanks
Bev

You will have to check in at PE.

Have you contacted Virgin's Special Assistance Department, we have an Autistic son and always ring them before we go.
They will place your details on record so that when you check in they will be aware that you will require assistance.

I am sure that the Cabin Crew will do their best to ensure you get off the aircraft as safely and quickly as possible, Virgin always treat us well.

The number for SA is 0870 990 8350

I always travel Virgin PE Gatwick to Orlando because I bring my own power wheelchair to the gate, and cannot transfer to my aircraft seat without assistance.

I am always first on and last off because they need the isles clear before they can help me out of my seat and into my wheelchair.

Even if you can walk off the aircraft without assistance, I believe you will still be told to wait in your seat until the special assistance ground staff bring the wheelchairs to the door of the aircraft, which they won't do whilst the hordes are rushing up the gangway trying to be first to the baggage hall. I think you will be one of the last off the plane.

The good side is that you will probably get to bypass the lines at immigration and will catch up witheveryone else in the baggage hall. Far better to be a lemon in an aircraft seat than a lemon in a long long immigration line.
