I am flying with a layover/ gate change Thursday. I am not taking my scooter because I won't really need it where I am going. I am planning to just get a wheelchair when I check my luggage and get assistance to the gate, wheelchair assistance to my next flight, and then when I land.

How much do I tip those employees that push the wheelchair?

Also I am considering taking my manual wheelchair and checking it in case I end up in a situation where I need it at my destination. If I decided to check it at the gate instead of at check in will they still provide assistance to push me to the gate and assist me during my layover? I can't propel myself in it--it is intended for someone else to push, and I am traveling alone.

I generally tip $5 for basic service - i.e. somebody wheels me from the curb or the counter to the gate, or the reverse - and $10 for superb service, i.e. the attendant helps me with my luggage or even waits with me for ground transportation or stops somewhere so I can get food/drink to bring on the plane...

Call the airline and tell them you're going to have your own wheelchair but will need assistance on both ends of the flight, see what they say.
